Really the "Infinity Gauntlet" in Thor could have just been the glove only. The gems could be elsewhere, or Odin could do something like "spread them across the stars" in response to Thanos trying to take it. In fact I think I just devised the storyline:

-Thanos attacks Asgard for the Cosmic Cube (as he attacked Earth in the comics for the cube)
-Upon entering the trophy room he sees the gauntlet and goes for it and either a) he gets it and then is stopped by odin, or b) is stopped by Asgardian warriors
-Odin spreads the gems across the universe
-Thanos escapes Asgard
-Epicness

Well if Loki did have the Mind Infinity Gem, then that means:

- Someone broke into the vault and stole the gauntlet
- Someone broke into the vault and only took the Gem
- The other gems were on the gauntlet but was missing the mind gem that had yet to be located

We don't see who gets the gem at the end (Possibly S.H.I.E.L.D) so maybe Thanos tries to go after it and the other Gems as you proposed after Odin splits the rest.

Ad's i got today was Dark shadow, Batman, promothius (crappy one not the face melting one) expendables 2 + the addtional Orange advert with the blonde kid from the inbetweeners then i got attacked by some black woman who kept trying to steal my wallet all through out the film, film was epic besides the nearly pick pocketing (also 2 seats had 5 people in them bitches need to get the asses out of bed and get there to get seats!)

Just came back from this. Super fun movie. Friggin' great. Hulk casually side punching Thor, smashing Loki just before his villainous diatribe. Fucking hilarious. And then to top it off, Infinity Gauntlet teaser at the end, my favourite comic story.

Honestly, I walked in expected terrible things but shit couldn't have been better. Huzzah for Joss.

My girlfriend and I went to see this tonight and we were really enjoying it everything was wrapping up.

Thor and Loki were teleporting away the avengers were standing around...

...and than the projector cut out lol would've been great to see all of it. Luckily we both enjoyed it enough that we'll go see it again and hopefully get to see the ending next time.

They did say almost a year had passed since Thor had last visited... it's entirely possible Heimdall had been watching Loki or had watched Loki's arrival on Earth and Odin sent Thor in response. It's also possible that they learned of Loki's plan because the Chitauri stole the Infinity Gems. I'm sure this will be touched on in Thor 2.

It's also possible that Loki gave away the gems or gauntlet in the short time he was "King" in a bid to secure some alliances against the possibility of Thor returning. Random speculation Go!
