I wonder how much of that was repeat viewers. I know a young lady that'd seen it three times, I just saw it a second time last night. It really is better in 3D.

1st time was Imax 3D, 2nd was normal viewing. Enjoyed it both times, but Imax made a difference for me. 2nd time I got to look for the easter eggs people were pointing out in this thread.
Saw it again. So awesome.
Hey, comic books nerds, would dormammu work in avengers?
I would say if they managed Thor they could manage Dormammu... but that might be a bit much. I think Thanos is a good fit so far and they could pull off Dr. Strange and other celestials if they do it properly.
I just read over the Iron Man Extremis storyline, since that appears to be the direction they're taking IM3 in (logically, else he would get creamed by Thanos in Av2). Somehow I don't like the idea of it. :\
I went back and watched the other Marvel movies and saw Coulson's first appearance in Iron Man. Sucks that he's gone now.![]()
Doing the Extremis storyline gets the movies more in line with the current Iron Man armor in the comics, which marvel is very much a fan of lately (though usually in the opposite direction with comics changing to their movie version).
As for Dorm, he could work but Thanos or Ultron would be better choices. Ultron is probably the best villain in the Avengers franchise, and Thanos lets them easily lead the Avengers 2 into a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Whats the over/under on this breaking 2b$?
Getting the #3 spot will be np, but breaking 2b? I really have no idea how Avatar is #1, but w/e.
Supposedly Guy Pierce is going to be Aldrich Killian.
It will be interesting to see (spoiler for those who haven't read the comic)
Spoiler: show
Of all the possible Iron Man stories, I'm surprised they would go the Extremis route.
I actually liked how they used Hawkeye as a badguy for the early parts of the movie, it was a nice little nod to his short time as a believed criminal when he first showed up in comics. I mean, he really got just as much backstory as the Widow and no one really complains about her.
While I understand the worry about more characters lessing the screen time for everyone, personally for a threat like Thanos I feel it would be the perfect reason for other heros that show up in the sequels/hopefully made mini-movies to gather together in an epic way. Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, Ms Marvel and so many other characters are just as much a part of the Avengers as the six in this movie, and it wouldn't feel right if at least some new heros weren't added to the roster in the years it'll take for the Avengers 2 to come out.
Marvel has more or less brought back the concept of "Movie Serials" in a sense as all these individual films are actually all one big story, and with as much money as they're getting from the Avengers I can't see Marvel not adding to that story with more movies about more heros, who will eventually be brought together again in the Avengers 2.
RE: Extremis
I haven't read it, but I read the wikipedia article. Based on that, it's much more in line with the Iron Man we're watching than other stuff I've browsed. It has the modern-esque origin story for the suit, his guilt for making weapons that kill people, mine_IED explosion, attempts to do good through sustainable energy.
I read the originals and then some as a kid, I don't remember those issues being major plot points. He just ran around fighting random dude x/y/z whose name and nefariousness weren't very inventive. Cold War, war is bad, USA sucks, Russia sucks, etc.
This arc seems like it could have some real drama (and be a good movie) rather than going around killing Iron Man suits named Titanium man and shit like that.
The only concern I have for Thanos on-screen is that he'd end up being CG.
So far I have really appreciated Marvel Studios' choices of actors, some really shined and worked perfectly either as heroes or villains. See also : Loki.
To have whoever actor they'd pick for such a major villain, covered up with purple skin and significant makeup kinda makes we worried. Red Skull, for example, felt too cartoony to a lot of friends.
You'd have to figure though is that Thanos would end up getting the same treatment as the Hulk did. I felt that Hulk was very well done in the Avengers and wasn't too over the top when it came to the CG. It's safe to say just given Thanos' body size and dimensions there's no way they could just dress an actor up in a suit and make it be realistic.
People in my theatre asked if it was hellboy, so there's always that option lol
