The Avengers Movie

Not very well versed in the Marvel universe but it's funny how everything turned out. Ant-Man and Wasp sound corny as fuck yet, Spiderman is a huge hit. Was Spidey introduced a shit load earlier then those two or they've never just appealed to a broader fanbase?

It's not the insect thing so much as the fact his super power was getting tiny then controlling ants. He gets cooler as Goliath, but his skill set is just kinda boring.

Ant Man and Wasp never had broad appeal, in my opinion, because they were so boring. Henry Pym is a bland character. Avengers Academy I think is trying to flesh him out more but he's portrayed as a paternal figure to the students. His greatest achievement is Pym Particles, his worst mistake(worse than beating Janet), was the invention of Ultron. Janet Van Dyne I could never read as a kid when I first got into comics because she was always a fashion hound. I mean, what kid is going to give two shits about that? Plus she had a really horrible haircut lol. Probably why she was killed off during Invasion. If her character is going to ever be used in the movieverse, I guarantee a resurrection.

Edgar Wright has already written the Antman movie, iirc it starts with Pym in the past and then goes to Scott Lang. But if you don't have Pym, then there's no Ultron, and no Vision. Well shouldn't be anyway.

once again marvel shows DC who's boss. I love batman as much as the next guy but you cant back an entire universe on one character. Thankfully Marvel has always stayed ahead of the curve with excellent characters to portray in film. I for one am hardly anticipating any Lobo or Martian Manhunter adaptations lol

I think when it comes to WB/DC, they really made some poor choices. When it comes to Batman, the first two: Batman and the sequel Batman Returns were good. But then we have the later 90's Batman movies: Batman Forever/Batman & Robin which were atrocious and basically should not have been made. Luckily Nolans TDK series has made us forget about those two movies but now we are running into an issue of what happens after TDKR? This will be the 7th Batman movie in 23 years (not including the film in 1966).

As for Superman, we got Superman Returns and now we are getting another reboot with The Man of Steel because Warner Brothers felt that Superman Returns should have made more money at the box office. A sequel was already in the works that focused on the Kryptonian land mass that floated out into space at the end of the first movie but was scrapped due to the writers strike and Bryan Singer dropping out after Warner Bros decided to reboot the movie.

Sadly as of right now, WB has no plans to release a Justice League movie, even though one was about to shoot before the writter's strike. However, given the popularity of the Avengers, and with Nolan working on TMoS, WB might change their mind in the future but DC needs a figure like Kevin Feige to keep everything together in the same universe.

The problem with DC is that they only have two heroes who really stand out on their own - Batman and Superman. They've never really pushed any of their other characters in media. Wonder Woman was close to becoming a show/movie but it went nowhere.

If you give most people a list of 30 comic characters, equally mixed between DC and Marvel, and say point out the DC characters, they will probably only ID 3-4 of them.

Everybody knows Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Aquaman alongside Bats and Supes. So there's 6.

But do those have the credibility of Batman and Superman? The Green Lantern movie was a flop. People will rush out to see batman and superman, but will they for the others? Avengers had such huge hype because each of the individual members had anywhere from decently to wildly successful movies of their own.

The Cap movie was pretty fucking terrible, as was the Eric Bana Hulk. Thor was marginally lolable as well.

So basically that leaves IM.

I thoroughly enjoyed Thor and Captain America. Both Hulk's were meh.

And I said the movies were successful. Wasn't talking about personal opinion lol. I personally thought Capt. and Thor were both great. Norton Hulk was okay.

As much as I've liked the JLA animated series they just wouldn't translate well to the big screen. Flash, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman would be terrible movies.

DC puts out better animated series, Marvel puts out better big screen material.
