There just needs to be a personal setting where we can send a message to anyone before they finalize friend request. Like:
"Hello and thank you for considering sending me a friend request, however please review the following criteria for people I would like to keep in touch with:
1. Are you an attractive female? If so, read no further and just send the friend request.
2. Are you crazy religious? If so, read no further, just go to church to meet people, you and I will not get along.
3. Are you fat? Yes, you probably are. I have no interest in knowing you.
4. Did I know you in HS, but never talked to you again? Hey guess what, if you dont meet criteria 1 then I still dont want to talk to you.
5. Do you play farmville and will you send me regular request to water your fucking carrots? If so, kill yourself.
6. Do you live in a place I will never return to or ever visit? If so, why the fuck are you talking to me? Are you lonely? Pathetic? Sentimental? Go out and meet some friends.
7. Are you related to me, but so fucking distant that I could fuck you and it not be illegal? Then I dont want to talk to you, go away."
I think that would solve a lot of the problems here.
At least if you talk to someone in person/one the phone you're actually spending real time with them, rather than facelessly over the internet (the irony of facebook...) Yes you can absolutely build up and further relationships over the internet but it's a pale substitute for the real thing.
I post here because it's fun, I don't find social networking sites fun at all. Game drama is petty and hilarious, real life drama is (usually) petty and uninteresting.
I have plenty of friends, very few of them use fb/myspace/lj either.![]()
i dunno about you guys but
i get friend requests from hot bitches every day and i have to turn em down because i dont give a fuck that she sucked my dick in the hot tub when i was 11
needs a foster's home for imaginary friends farmville pick ;o
one time i got an random add from some like, 70 year old guy who i have never met or talked to, and he has an incredibly creepy picture, but i accepted the invite because i have no friends and maybe he has candy
that post is totally serious by the way, hes still on my friend list
You do realize that this is what your own discretion is for, right? Like Kuya said, this is why we need the government to regulate everything we consume; clearly we are too fucking stupid to do it ourselves.
Oh, you're one of those people who doesn't understand the difference between a medium similar to twitter and blogs. No point in actually addressing anything you've said.
Just saying though, I find a lot of what was said seriously in this thread to be really pathetic. I'm sorry if your friends and/or judgment is so terrible that the only shit you ever see on myspace/facebook/etc is petty bitching. I made good decisions when choosing who to friend on facebook, and now most of the time when I visit, I get links to interesting articles and videos. So yeah, guess I can't relate up in hurr.
Get upset much?
Besides, how am I supposed to know if chick that used to be hot got really fat over the years?
They just need a fat filter.
I dunno what all the hatin' is about. I don't use FB at all and I when I meet someone irl or run into and old friend that just says "oh I'll friend you on facebook" I laugh and tell them I don't use that crap. Suddenly it's like I am from another dimension or something and they get that look in their eye like I am dirty and they need to get away from me as fast as they can. Studying mental health counseling, I can totally see where the desire to catch up with people from the past or keep in touch with those in the present comes from, but really, the whole thing is nihilistic as hell. If people don't wanna use it, they shouldn't be chewed out for it. Of course, trying to give a reason for that and having anyone believe you just gets people all defensive (as above).
I love getting messages from people I don't know or haven't known that try to add me. So far, it's only happened a few times but it's always fun responding to them like "Uh, yea, do I know you?"
I had one friend find me from when we were only 7 years old. That was like, 22 years ago and this guy remembers me that long ago. Facebook is awesome sometimes.
Other times it makes me laugh hysterically.
Oh come on guys, this thread started out funny, and now we're gonna argue?![]()
lol, ITT cool people hating the popular.
I mean, I've never seen this before. Very interesting indeed.
Seriously guys, I mean look, the chicken coop. It is ready.

True. I am not a big fan of the way people can be sometimes but it's part of my job these days so I do my best. In my experiences, people that feel detached from others don't always know how to articulate that. It's not psychotic, it's rather normal.
Edit: the Jigsaw farmville thing made me laugh so hard my girlfriend woke up haha
