Unauthorized Hard Inquiries
So last month our old roommates moved out and we had to switch the internet over to my name. We set it up pretty simply so that all I had to do was go in and show them the cable modem and provide a picture ID. I called them once beforehand to ask a few things and they asked me to "verify my identity." I didn't really think much of it, but they ended up doing this by running a hard inquiry on my credit report. I called them and asked them to reverse this (if it's even possible) because that's fucking retarded because really they're only supposed to show up if you apply for credit. After reading a bit about it though, apparently companies can have a form of PP if you're potentially signing up for their services. Later that week, I called again after I had already given them information (so they had me in their system already.) I gave them my information again although I stated specifically that I did not want a credit report run and that I was just going to hang up if they did. They told me they wouldn't run a credit report, but today I just got another hard inquiry on my credit report.
I'm pretty fucking annoyed by this. I've spent a while trying to get decent credit and these hard inquiries have started to lower my score. It's illegal to run a hard inquiry without PP. I'm trying to figure out what I should do here, maybe someone has some experience.
