I liked all 3 of the Resident Evil movies.
I should also add that I've only ever played RE2, and that was over 10 years ago and I've completely forgotten everything about it.

Some games make shitty movies.
You want films to stay cannon to video games? go hire Uwe boll. He'll shit it up for you
Games have the advantage of being 20+hrs long to build stories and background on characters. Movies have 90 mins
All that being said I liked All three movies because I didn't think of them as Resident evil game based movies. I thought of them as Resident Evil movies.
These movies have been alright so far, I won't be paying to see it in theaters, but I might still check it out at some point.
I enjoyed the first three movies also, I really would like to see Chris Redfield kicking some ass. That said, based on the preview this movie looks corny.
I'm a huge RE fan and after I just dealt with the fact that they were never going to be able to make a movie exactly like the games I enjoyed the movies as action zombie movies. Anyways if I wanted to relive the games I'd just play them.
I'm guessing a person liking the movies is based on which they did first: Watch the movies or play the games.
I saw the movie first and liked it quite a bit, so that got me interested in the games (which RE4 dropped soon after I watched the first movie.) So RE was introduced to me as an action game with survival horror elements, not the other way around. I know the movies have gotten progressively more... out there. I won't make an excuse for that, but I also let my brain shift into neutral and just enjoy what I'm being told without analyzing it too much. (Seriously, I've ruined good classics for me doing that.)
So that said, I'm really looking forward to this movie.
Looks horrible, just like the previous ones. Who funds this shit?
That doesn't look very good to me, but I'll still go see it. I thought the first one was pretty good, even though it didn't stick to the story, but now they just namedrop people and call it a plot.
I guess what my issue is with the movies is that when I see resident evil, I instantly think zombies. So I just picture it being a very zombie-ish movie. the first one kind of did that with action elements and then it progressively got less zombie and more actioney. That's my only gripe but other than that they're okay movies.
although, that's what the games kind of did. take less aim offa the zombies and survival and made it more actioney so the movies and games have more alike then I thought :F
but I'm a Milla whore so that's probably why I'll see this one.
I only played through 1 and 2, and a small part of 3.
Loved first movie, 2nd one was pretty damn good, though it had some bad parts. 3rd one was meh, but it was still milla so whatever.
I think it's all just on how seriously you take it, 2 had some great scenes and was pretty awesome to watch if you don't care about the corny shit with nemesis.
I'm guessing this is going to be pretty much *all* about the 3D, so if it's done well it should be fun as hell to see.
There better fucking be some 3D naked milla.
This will be worth a dollar once it hits Redbox. I do admit I own all three movies on dvd and as bad as they are, I do like them.
A Resident Evil movie doesn't sound like a hard thing to make. You can easily take the concepts (not like Umbrella had one fucking branch), get some new characters in some new locations and make a fucking movie. It doesn't matter what the story is, as long as the same concepts are there, new people will enjoy and fans will enjoy it. When you start cherry picking scenes and characters from existing games, mixing them in with some new stories and characters it just goes downhill. It's not like cherry picking would be bad, but they just couldn't do it right.
They basically take these badass characters that people already like and make them scenery props for whatever's going on. That's just crap. RE never had the best story in the world, so I doubt fans care greatly about that, just don't butcher what exists already.
Anyway, rant over.
I've read about this before in the past as well. I think the explanation was that they want the films to have "original content" in order to appear creative and that critics tend to bash films that adhere 100% to the source material.
I am, however, with you. If I want to see a movie based on a book or game I've played, I want to see it because it is based on that book or game. I think that's the reason that a lot of people hate movies from books because they're so poorly done due to the changes (I couldn't stand any of the Harry Potter films because I thought they changed too much stuff and they were fairly small changes overall).
I thought that by the end of the third movie (I never played the games myself) all the zombies were pretty much destroyed and Alice was going after the leaders of Umbrella Corp. Then again, none of the movies seem to move too continuously in terms of plot.
I also really love zombie movies but because of the below, I'll definitely see this movie:
Me too. I love Milla. She's my girl crush. I've loved her since "The Fifth Element". She's so unbelievably awesome. I hate that she's been languishing in terrible low budget horror films trying to do "real acting". She's an awesome on-screen fighter; the only female action star who actually looks like she knows what she's doing when she's fighting on-screen. I even liked "Ultraviolet" for the fight scenes of her and her sword. Uma Thurman's Bride has nothing on Milla for swordplay.

Look at this! How cool is this?! She gets me all wet and I am so anti-vagina in general too.

I thought this at least looked better than part 3. I own it, but it came as part of a box set on blu ray which was cheaper than buying the other two movies on their own. It's okay, nothing great, or even good.
You say the guy they got to play Wesker looks nothing like him? Go watch Resident Evil: Extinction (I think that was part 3) and look at Wesker in that one, then look at Wesker in this one, it's a HUGE improvement. Since this isn't one of those tacked on last second 3D jobs like Clash of the Titans, the 3D might actually be good. From the trailer though, it looks like it is going to be gimmicky 3D with lots of shit flying at you. As long as it's well done though, that's okay in my book. I'll definitely go see it in the theater as I saw all the others in theater.
I'll probably see the movie but i can't forgive what they've done to Wesker :\ Looks awful.
I don't really care way to much about keeping the story in line since well, the stories we're mostly horrible and the only reason people think they were good is nostalgia.
I never got to play 1, i did beat 2/3/4/5 though... I consider myself a RE Fan but i can get through the movies by letting go of all the expectations i have from the games and take it for what it is... a Game made into a movie by some douche who probably couldn't tell the difference between a PS/Xbox controller and a Baseball and has never touched a video game in his life.
Edit: At least they made a realistic rendering of Hollywood after the hardcore RE Fans get a hold of it. Secondly, I don't remember a single RE Game where you could get Shurikens or Katanas... I don't see a point in those weapons in the RE franchise...
I'll watch it. I enjoyed the first 3 and Mila is a bad ass bitch in everything she does.
Bad remix of A Perfect Circle - The Outsider... And minus the same vocals, I find their two sounds very different. Billy does most of the writing, so APC shouldn't sound like Tool at all.
As for RE. The first one was decent, the other two were garbage. Hopefully this'll be watchable.
