I tap my knees or elbows, depending on how I'm sitting.
Side of my thigh if I'm standing up.

Fucking all three of these. The leg bouncing thing isn't that bad, but the sides of my thumbs are constantly bloody from scraping them with my index fingers, and my lips are always torn up from biting them. Really wish I could stop these habits.
i used to bite the FUCK out of my lips until it affected my trumpet playing, that shit is my bread and butter paying for school.
I have extremely bad panic attacks and my nervous "twitch" is grinding my index fingernail into my thumb in between the nail and the skin. Its something I can do with my hand in my pocket, under the table, etc.. just out of view of most people. Started doing it cause the feeling of pain eventually distracted me from what I was having an attack about, but that quickly stopped working and now I do it without even realizing it.
My gf will smack my hand, hold it, yell at me to stop, etc when ever she sees me doing it. Ive gotten myself to fiddle with coins now without realizing it, but if no coins are present then I find myself bruising the fuck out of my thumb.
And now, fuck this thread, apparently I started grinding my fingers while reading it.. lol
I used to do all sorts of weird things when nervous, then I started carrying a water bottle around in an attempt to get more healthy. Now whenever I'm nervous I find myself drinking a sip of water, which is very nice. Not only is it more socially acceptable than all the other weird things, but it is a very healthy habit!
I'd suggest it for anyone who is trying to break a habit. I'm sure any drink would work, but Water is acceptable to bring anywhere including class or work, so it is nice to never have to be without it.
Crack my knuckles and play with my phone. Either way I tend to look down at the ground so people don't stare at me while I'm obviously nervous, heh.
I believe this is called internalized stress/anxiety reaction or something like that. I do it too in certain circumstances.
Basically people who do it don't exhibit any outward signs of stress or anxiety. Instead their response is entirely or mostly internal. Can be characterized by increased heart rate, blood pressure (sometimes dangerously high), and muscle tension, etc.
I tend to take out my cellphone and look at it even though I know there isn't anything new waiting for me at that moment.
