    Biggest waste of money imaginable. Anyone who buys one of these deserves to be cleansed via rusty spork.

    inb4 fanboyism, hatred, flamewars, jealousy, os wars, "waste of money", dudes smashing ipads with baseball bats and other such rubbish.

    It looks cool, but I can't afford one and I don't really have much of a need for one.

    Edit: Oh damn, looks like I missed my mark.

    Yeah, I'm more interested in the potential releases in the future. Thing is OK, just feels incomplete without multi-tasking and, well, OS X(though what they are shooting for would also work with a iPhone OS + multi-tasking).

    Early reviews indicate that its very fast for what it does (surfing, etc.), speed was huge problem with the Win 7 netbook I've used for a week...but well, not a big fan of netbooks anyway. My current laptop + Blackberry is doing the job and I don't think I'll need another portable device in near future.

    Pretty much any OS except the one they used would have made this a valid gadget. Even though I still personally wouldn't ever get one, you could at least see its merit if it were running Snow Leopard or something.

    I'd like to think this gets utilised as a portable external screen, but from what I've read streaming a full resolution (iPad sized, not monitor...) interactive video feed with a decent refresh rate over wifi fails. I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping for a poor man's Wacom Cintiq type app.

    Only thing that slightly possibly interests me is the ebook/ibook/whatevertheshitthey'recalling it options, but then I remember how retarded it was to upload files to my itouch, I think I'll go with a real ebook device, whenever I get around to getting one.

    I got a Sony ebook reader and I like it a lot, and I hear even better things about kindles, and I think those can have full internet access, so I'd go with one of those any day.

    I'm personally thinking about either the Alex or the Nook, leaning towards Alex, but still not satisfied enough to actually purchase one

    I don't own an android phone, so having a device with android in it would be neat, especially since I'm doing a bit of android development in one of my classes. My next phone will probably be an Android sometime later this year so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

    The ipad is actually a lot closer to the type of e-reader I want to get. Lots of extra functionality so it's not just an ereader. The only (huge) draw backs, is that it's a piece of shit apple product. At least this should spark some competition from people who aren't complete retards. (Oh, and I guess the battery is probably a lot more inferior, that would be another big problem.)

    Back to waiting for a "perfect" e-reader.

    Who cares, really? I'm not the type to be writing forum post essays anyway. The device suits my needs well, so I view it as a valid purchase.

    I guess sign me up for the rusty spork. It works well for what I wanted it for. After it was delivered yesterday I've been streaming my Netflix account on it, browsing the web, and running my apps. Is it a waste of money? If you are living on ramen and barely making rent, then yes it would be. If you have the disposable income and means to afford one then it's not really a waste if you plan on using it. This is not something to create media and entertainment on. It is however something to enjoy media and entertainment on.

    Anyone who thinks this iPad is not already obsolete is kidding themselves. I know very well that Apple has hardware revisions already well underway and we are probably less than a year away from a new release. I'm okay with that though, and will purchase that one as well. It comes hand in hand with early adopting any tech product. My current iPad is being passed to my mother once the 3G comes out at the end of the month.

    As far as the OS is concerned, I love it. I would have loved to have OS X even more on it, but the iPhone OS is perfectly fine for what it is designed to do. Multitasking is available on it, however only through Apple's own apps. That will change though with iPhone OS 4. They are finally planning on adding multitasking via some sort of expose type system.

    I find it funny though after spending the morning with family members for Easter, that several who were Apple haters love the iPad. I practically had to tear it out of one of their hands because they would not share the love and let others mess with it.

    It's going to be one of those products that people who have not ever touched one will doubt, yet those who have actually gotten their hands on will love and enjoy. I'm sure other people out there will still say it's a waste and stand by their opinions, but to those people all you can really say is it's their loss for not even seeing it and touching it for themselves.

    P.S. Typing is not hard at all on it. It's actually quite easy and comfortable. The speed is also amazing on this thing. Very impressed with it so far, and already find myself going to it for web needs over my Macbook Pro because it's just easier and quicker to access.

    I'd only get if it I was a frequent traveler, otherwise, I could get a laptop for the same price as a netbook and do just about the same shit but then a lot more.

    If this came out before smart phones, and before pimping laptops. I might buy it; all it seems to be is a item that could take over a laptop/phone, but without the phone part. So I would still have to hold my phone. What can this do that a droid/Iphone cant? Outside the bigger screen? It runs the Iphones OS, that means it really can not do much more.

    If you bought one, and like it; great. I just can not bring myself to spend $700(the one that does the most) on something I have as is; hell it does a lot less then I need it to do. I go away for a week? I am going to bring my laptop to play games. I tend to do homework as well, without a physical keyboard I can not see myself typing a 5-10 page paper on a touch screen or without Microsoft Word ~_~;

    Maybe others can get use out of it, as it seems like a neat toy, but just that a toy that can not do what I need it to do. If you dont play lots of games, lots of typing and a few other key things that I find myself doing each day.

    To people saying "till you try it dont knock it" I do not have to try it to know it does not do major things that I do with my laptop;
    1)Music editing
    2)Games... ya it wont run FF11,14, ME2, or any games I play
    3)As of now it does not have MS word(right? maybe I am wrong on this)
    4) no physical keyboard, thus I can not see myself writing large papers.
    5)games....
    6)flash: ok mac people will fight me to the death on this, to be it nicely. fuck off till your so called better system works.

    edit#500?: This, to me, seems like a very nice item for someone who is older; does not want to carry a laptop that is more weight. I understand that, its something that I could very well see my Mom using, if it went down in price, as her blackberry(that she only understands how to web brows/gps on) does it. The price is just far to high for what it does right now. Maybe in a year or so it will grown, and brightcover will be almost up to par with flash and give you almost as muhc power as a laptop; then it might be worth it for people outside casual users.

    Its like the Wii of laptops right now if you ask me. I have a wii by the way >.> father bought it lol
