You can; I went with a group that had BLM BLM BLM BLM SCH RDM. I had the BLMs time nuke and I ran in and gravi-ga'd the adds while the RDM used sleepga on them. BLMs kited the MB around the house and the RDM and I kept adds slept/gravitied/bound while BLMs did work.
It lead to a few deaths, mainly because the BLMs weren't /NIN, but we went 2/2 today and got crap on it.
Yeah, Manaburn is the way to go if you have friends with those jobs. You don't actually need 6 either if you're short-handed or feeling a rather high affinity for the gils. We did it with a few as 4 BLM/NIN a few times. Same basic strategy. Run in, ES Sleepga 2, ES Sleepga 2, etc. The next guy in the ES Sleepga order has to make sure he isn't kiting the main NM, but it's doable. Use Thunder spells.
Also, I think Orcish Counterstance increases the damage he takes from magic (not just -Defense), so Manaburns really get a big break if he uses that early. I seem to remember using Thunder 3 on him for >1000 damage on RDM in my last bout of Splitting Heirs.
Way to startle me by dragging Armed Gears to Arrapago port you punk. :<
And I think it's Fanatic Dance that increases damage taken from spells, or whatever that move is where he's slowly stomping around.
I think that sort of clunky dance is the Orcish Counterstance animation actually. Fanatic Dance is a Charm move that might have the same animation, but I don't think he has it.
And yesh, Armed Gears >^,^< He died, but it took long enough that I'm never trying that again.
I go as BLM/RDM but don't die any more than those who go /NIN do.
Anyway, if you have 6 people and 4 are BLMs, you can just kill him in the open area in 5-7 min without the need for kiting.
I like using BLM/RDM x 4 + RDM/BLM + Any mage.
ES grav after initial nuke and spread out in the open area. BLMs focus on boss while the remaining 2 keep adds slept. Even for relatively poorly equipped BLMs, it should be dead by the time the 4th ES Grav is used. The group may need to pay some attention to mp but the BLM add can be aspired. Well-equipped BLMs will probably only need 2 gravities.
Average kill time - ~6 min
There are a 2 general variants to the starting part:
1: BLM time-AM2 boss, RDM sleepga adds
2: RDM T3 boss, BLM cast ga3 about 1 in-game min after RDM starts. This should kill 1-2 adds depending on the delay and make the initial part easier.
Unless your BLM has a habit of not running from incoming gravitied mobs before starting a nuke, you don't need shadows.
4 blm/nin, rdm/blm and a cor/whm works. Light shot works wonders.
If this isn't being sarcastic - this is how i've always done it. 4-5 BLM/NIN or BLM/RDM with either 1-2 RDM's to sleep the adds. Just kite/grav the boss around, its really quite easy if your BLM's are decent. We generally use all the tags we have available back to back, not having to use 2hours. Not only can you aspir the boss, but you can aspir one of the adds too very easily for large amounts of MP (boss you don't get quite as much).
