You're wasting your money tbh.
You're wasting your money tbh.
So you basically ignored every piece of advice given in this thread and went and bought just about the shittiest option available.
I personally don't have a problem with Dell's laptops (and by extension my new Alienware laptop), but their desktops are a bad scene since they're always such a pain in the ass for any kinds of upgrades.
Yeah seems that way. What's the point of spending $750 when even while you're buying it, you know it's not good enough and are just going to have to probably buy again soon...
Congratulations! Enjoy your paperweight.
sounds like OP is really impatient and ya, ignored everyone. I agree with Dell laptops. you can get a decent deal from Dell if you are smart. I purchased from Dell Outlet website a laptop about 8 years ago. Inspiron 9300 1.8ghz, 2 gig ram, 128mb ati radeon x300m, 100gig hd, Win XP. for 700$ after various coupon discounts that I found online. thing still runs fine and able to play FFXI on mid to high mid settings with very little lag.
but overall best value for $$$ is to build your own.
I'm in college I don't have time to build one/order one had to be store bought... and not many stores that sell pcs around here. I'm thinking about taking it back in two weeks when semester ends and building one then over the summer break. Can has more pc specks? and info about building one? I was looking at this
Phenom II x4 955 cpu
MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard
Western Digital caviar black 1TB
Crucial ballistix tracer (blue lights) 2 x 2GB ddr3 1333 cas 7 memory
HD 5850 gpu
Antec 1200 case
Silverstone ST75F-P 750w psu
and it seemed promissing but what graphics card? and how do i tell if things are compatable or not? also would really like to make it liquid cooled. Will that case support it? Also the reviews on the motherboard seem like its kind of complicated for a beginner assembling doesnt seem that hard, its the bios and shit that seem like it will get confusing. also whats the best graphics card brand?
To be honest you shouldn't be waiting 2 weeks to take it back, you should take it back immediately. If you wait to long then you may not be able to return it. What i listed will cost you alot of money, maybe more than you would like to spend but if you would like to spend that kind of money then go ahead. I know a custom liquid cooled PC looks very cool with all the tubes looping around with colored coolant running through them but honestly it's for professionals only, one leak and your hardware is ruined beyond repair. There's all in one liquid cooling though that will never leak like the Corsair H50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=corsair%20h50 I don't know to much about all the motherboard chipsets, i only know about the 790FX chipset motherboards which i'll be using one in my own build. http://www.amd.com/us/products/Pages/chipsets.aspx 790FX, 790X, 890GX, 790GX are all the current latest chipsets for AM3 motherboards, some have more overclocking potential, features, faster memory support, better video card support and stuff like that than others. It's quite the task finding a motherboard that will be perfect for you own needs. Making sure everything is compatable is easy, just look at all the specifications of each piece of hardware.
I believe AMD is launching their six core processors at the end of the month. They will sell for under $300.00. I would wait till then before building an AMD based system. The new processors are different than the current Phenom II they utilize a TURBO core technology which turns off inactive cores and raises the voltage on active cores and can increase speeds on each of the active cores by up to 800Mhz.
Furthermore, you'll be fine with an Antec three hundred or nine hundred case and I can't imagine with you need a motherboard with four PCI-E 2.0 Slots......
Would I be better off buying one of those built for power computers from new egg annd up grading it untill I have more experence?
Ok I am a very similar question. I will just post it here first and see how it goes. I wanna try and gather as many opinions as I can tbh.
I am trying to get a new gaming PC (for FFXIV mostly), and I am interested in hearing opinions on specific builds within my budget. My budget for this new PC will be 1,300. Any info is greatly appreciated. I had a friend give me his opinion on a build within my budget and this is what he came to:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...D=3750525&SID=
Again any criticism or further info/recommendation is greatly appreciated.
What everyone has failed to mention in this thread are warranties and labor. If you're not good with computers and something goes wrong, or if you're cheap, then you're going to need a good warranty. Dells were mentioned and yes they're proprietary you will never upgrade them, et cetera, but you can buy a 3 year warranty for $4 (hyperbole). The things that Dell is known for are the things that they do best, modulated easy to repair hardware design, warranty, and technical support.
Don't let people fool you with the "India" bullshit either. Within the past three weeks I've had to defend Dell three times. Yes, sometimes you will have to deal with the inanity "Is your computer turned on?" bullshit (which you can bypass if you explain to them everything you've done already, I had a new motherboard for my laptop shipped to me without talking to anyone because I emailed them all my diagnostic steps). Additionally most of their warranties include onsite repair, so you wont have to send your laptop off to a factory and wait 4-8 weeks to get it back. If you're set on a laptop Dell is not a bad place to look, you will pay more but you will be confident in what you're getting.
Everything else I have to say has been covered, more or less, already.
If your budget is 1300, and that build is 1000... get a 5850/470 instead of the 5770. All 3 are the leaders in DX11 price/performance, but the 470/5850 are considerably faster. Depending on which you chose, it would set you back another $175-200 and be roughly equal to dual 5770s. (and while you could get 2 5770s for the same price, it would limit your upgrade options down the road moreso than a single card would).
I'd recommend the 5850 for you, only because I would have to suggest a different motherboard if you chose the 470 since the one selected doesn't support SLI(natively anyway, you could mod this if you wanted). It's the cheaper of the two, and about 10% slower.
Other than that, build looks good. Solid case choice, I love my HAF932![]()
Yes my friend is mailing me a windows 7 he get free from his job so I am only focusing on PC spec.
You won't need tripple channel memory as AMD motherboards don't support it. Go with dual channel memory 2 x 2GB, cas latency 7 or lower will be better and it doesn't matter if it's 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz but the 1600 will be slightly better.
Go with the 5850 or 5870, don't get a Nvidia video card as all of the AMD motherboards only support crossfireX.
Get a modular power supply, single +12v rail, 80+ silver and crossfire certified will be great but not crucial. If you plan to crossfire down the road then it will be wise to get one that has enough wattage to support it, future proofing is a good thing.
The Phenom II x4 955 is exactly the same as the 965 with the only difference of one being overclocked by 0.2Ghz so go with the 955.
A motherboard that uses the 790FX chipset will be a really good. The new AMD motherboards that use the 890FX chipset are coming out really soon i think and those will be better.
The HAF 932 is an amazing case but there's other options here. Another amazing case is the Silverstone FT02.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-161-_-Product
Everything else looks good.
based on your budget switch the 5770 to a 5850 or 5870 and dump the 965 for a 955 C3 or if you don't mind waiting until the end if the month you can get Phenom II x6, this launches on April 26th and will use a turbo core technology that boosts the frequency on active cores and lowers it on inactive ones.
Well as far as Dell Laptops go.... don't underestimate the warranty on those things. A friend of mine got a top end Dell Laptop 5 years ago. He games a lot and from what I see, the laptops break a lot (hes fried at least 4 graphics cards....). Even though hes had a lot of problems with them, with his warranty he was able to upgrade his Laptop twice for free basically. I think he actually got a newer Alienware laptop a week ago because his graphics card died again.
am i the only one who gets slightly annoyed when people say "i want a new rig for a game that hasnt been released yet". <_< You will end up saving like 200-300 if you just sit on it. till they atleast tell us a release date <_<
