Funny thing is, if you did this same poll on alla or something the results would probably be polar opposite. I really wouldn't be shocked one bit if a higher percentage of players believed in the voodoo because lets be honest, it's more fun. When you can say I'm facing SW, it's wind day that earth is weak too, and new moon I'm bound to HQ that *seems* cooler. Then of course selective memory wins out because when someone has a shitty day and go 0/18 they say meh bad luck and forget about, but the next time when they go 3/18 they say WOOT NEW MOON WIND DAY FTW, CAN'T DISPUTE THOSE NUMBERS MOTHERFUCKERS 3/18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it very refreshing to believe in none of the voodoo. Random shit is random is a lot easier to blame something on than worrying about 5 potential variables that align on a week night at 4:12am. If it weren't for this BG crafting community I'd probably still be a voodoo believer.

I only craft Holy Waters in Salvage on Lightsday with Light weather because it lets me HQ2 and triple my Holy Water every time.

I used to try to follow moon phase and day, but still got crap results overall. So now I craft whenever I feel like crafting. I still use directions though since it only takes a second anyways. Even then I still have my shitty crafting days.

I craft whenever I want. I also haven't had a T0 since 2007.

I craft pretty much whenever I want, I don't put any more stock into direction or weather, or for the most part, day/moon. For some reason I do avoid crafting during waxing gibbous? Dunno why, but always have.

GoGo useless stuff. I don't ever expect that the waxing moon has jack to do with anything, but I find it funny in myself anyways.

I usually follow directions, even though I have attempted to craft large batches of synths during new moon, I hardly ever get good results. I desynth items during lightningsday, I wear my Jupiter's Staff and always face SW ( I know, silly, huh?) . I gave up crafting inside my mog house because every time I do it, I get crit breaks... I used to believe in the days depending on the crystal but gave that up too. I try to never craft anything during Ice days, somehow I always break my mats. These are my superstitions, in the end, what matters is what you believe!

I believe in moon phase, day, and direction. Being an alchemist, I've crafted and crafted and crafted and crafted... probably more than others in my time in FFXI (April 2004-July 2009 -- will return when I get home from deployment). Over the years, I've noticed a huge difference in day and moon phase for HQs and skillups. It's become second nature to me. I only HQ high-value items during the aforementioned times. If it's stuff like prism powder and whatever else, it's just direction, and sometimes day if it happens to be close.

I'm a believer of the superstition.

I think we reserve the right to pick and choose when we craft .

Sometimes, it's just convenient. Personally, I get it all done in one fell swoop... and if it's something simple like prism powder or black ink, then it doesn't really matter.

This argument can go on forever :/

Edit: Also, I normally try to HQ cursed items these days, so it's better safe than sorry for those.

I have always used facing directions, but could care less about the Moon / Day... Though facing directions could be totally BS - a friend of mine got Dalmy +1 with the crafter facing for NQ so he didn't break the thing lol.

Oh, you certainly have the right to pick and choose. At the end of the day, it's business.

In the world of FFXI crafting, I say superstition is a detriment to good business. I have seen no evidence in the last 6 years to support any of the traditional superstitious factors to the point where adopting one or more of them would positively impact my business. Therefore, I choose not to employ them. I've tried most of the common ones without substantial success, and I've scoured the forums looking for anything that would be considered significant without finding anything.

So, like I said, if Joe Crafter only wants to craft on Darksdays or on Full Moons, that severely restricts his ability to churn out volume. I'm okay with that, because his personal restrictions mean that there's more opportunity for my volumes to earn a profit.

As for your question, I've always hated blind belief, and all too often, people preach anecdotally that "such and such helped me because I made 3 HQ Wind Staves in a row!" They pass this off as convincing logic or proof, and readers believe it. The average reader doesn't take the time to critically think about this sort of stuff, because they just want to make a buck.

At the end of the day, if it doesn't hurt you significantly, then by all means, have at it. But if you can't prove that it benefits you significantly, then don't run around telling people that it's a fact.

Because in the eight years that this game has been going this has NEVER EVER been done, right? This arguement has been going on for fucking ever and it's because you can't prove it either way.
