tbh, if they go w/ allowing beta ppl to keep their names.. I'll be extremely surprised if this happens before OB. Since there is a full wipe inbetween each phase, and the outlash of more then 95% of the population who will lose out on a name because the RNG did not favor them on selection. And yeah, you can say "well its just one server".. But allowing ppl to keep a name when so many ppl don't have a chance is anything but fair.

As far as I know SE has just stated they were thinking about this idea, and it's not confirmed... more of a potential idea they were toying w/. Allowing ppl from OB to keep their names is a possibility since that will be a chance for most ppl to play

I think my rage was justified. I mean you were talking about excluding people just because they choose to use an unoriginal name (rather than specifically retarded ones).

Of course I'm just as bad trying to judge your personality based on one post. But shit happens on forums lol.

The reality is most people will use unoriginal names, whether you know where they're from or not makes little difference. Retarded ones are easy to spot. Not everyone can come up with something completely original that they'll still be happy with in 5-8 years time. Looking back at my original XI name, I hate it. But I quit XI at the end of 2005 so it doesn't matter.

It's a pointless debate anyway until they release the details.

I suppose it makes more sense to have first name be unique, for /t purposes. Maybe in the alpha they aren't unique due to having to /t both names but they could change that when they alter the way you /t people.

If first names are unique and last names don't matter for useful purposes you could even have a setting to turn last names off for those who hate them.

Alpha test doesn't mean it'll be in the final so don't supply your feed back about a system you like/dislike just watch it go into the game

I really don't see a problem with this. You have a lot more room to get a name you somewhat want this way without resorting to backups of backups. Seriously, I'm trying to understand the problem here. Sure variations of Cloud and Seph and whatever will be annoying but I'm pretty sure they'd still be around regardless.

I don't like the 2 name system, and I'll hate it even more if I'm forced to pick two names. No real reason to add it other than to pretend this adds meaningful customization or to satisfy some roleplayers who could do without and have been for a long time.

I thought I had read somewhere (and yes, this could have been an April Fools joke) that you could pick whatever for the first name (so, yes there could be 10 people on a server with the same first name), and the last names would be unique. Then, if someone wanted to share your last name they had to get your permission (so you could have family I guess). And for tells you could do the whole of either name with the first letter of the other.



Oh, and I don't really care either way, but would love to share a last name with my hubby if possible.
