Problem with Monitor - EDID corrupt?

My monitor is only showing a resolution of 1024 x 768. The problem is, it's supposed to have a resolution of 1680 x 1050... which means it's just not showing the correct resolution. I've pretty much narrowed the problem down to a corrupt EDID. I have no idea how to go about fixing the problem. I found a couple programs online that let you edit EDIDs, but I just can't seem to figure out how to work them.

    Can anyone help?

whats the mother board / video cards maximum video output? that could also be a factor depending on age of the machine.

I've been using this monitor for 2 years at 1680 x 1050, this is a recent problem. I have a 1920 x 1080p HDTV that I have hooked up to it right now, and everything works fine. I tried connecting the 1050 monitor to a different computer, and it wouldn't take it at all, so I'm 99% sure that it's the monitor and not my video card. I have an 8800 GTS 512 MB.

When I set my desktop's resolution to 1680 x 1050, everything gets blown up, and i have to scroll along the edges in order to see the rest of the screen. Also, when I go into the monitor's settings via the button on the actual screen, it says that the native resolution is 1024 x 768.

I called Envision tech support, and they also figured that it was an EDID problem, and told me I could send it in to them since it was still in warranty. But the cost to ship it is $85... so I figured I might as well see if I can fix it myself.

Ah the information made it alot clearer.

As for fixing it probably will be next to impossible, most the time if something fails and you need to send it to a manufacurer they either know how to fix it / swap parts or just issue you a replacement.

Might be easier to look into getting a newer monitor.

That's what I was afraid of.

Still looking for input, if anyone has any idea. Here's a program that is supposed to be able to overwrite old IDED files, but doesn't include a simplewalkthrough or directions on how to use it (that I could find.

I supposed you're using Vista or 7... might be the Microsoft's enforcement of EDID verification that is fucking you up...

I know what you could try but it's brutal if your monitor doesn't have a VGA out.

    Spoiler: show

Best done on a VGA/DVI adapter, but it doesn't change anything for the picture, it's only the EDID wires

    Hey

Grab the full version of PowerStrip (the trial does not have full functionality) and find the EDID for your monitor. You can then flash the monitors EDID with a non corrupt version of the EDID and you should be good to go.

PowerStrip here -> http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm (Im sure you can find a torrent or something)

Here is a good tut on how to flash monitors

I specifically had this monitor, and the EDID got corrupt and I followed this guide.

    http://blog.komeil.com/2008/06/fixin...no-signal.html

A copy of your EDID is saved in the Windows Registry. Please note it’s not your live EDID, maybe it’s correct but your monitor’s not. This is true especially when your monitor’s out and your Windows Vista (or Windows Server 2008) was working fine until yesterday! Anyway, it’s located here:
Pay attention to that part of the guide. Maybe it will help you out.

Awesome, thanks. This is just what I was looking for.

The only problem I see is it looks like I need an uncorrupted version of my monitor's EDID. How do I go about finding one?

Im unsure where you can download an uncorrupt version. I would suggest calling the mfg back and having them email you the EDID DAT file

Called them back, tech support guy said they can't do it because I'm not supposed to have the "tools" to fix it. Regional manager refused to talk to me. I said I couldn't afford to ship it to them, and he hung up. Yay customer support. Anyone have a G22LWk Envision monitor whos EDID I can borrow? lol
