Absolute Virtue server go!
This isn't directly related to these articles but I thought I'd post it here because this thread is slower than the live thread that is dominated by children having tantrums. So there's a better chance someone with some regard will reply.
It seems as though the introductory part of the Alpha was tailored for Limsa Lominsa. A ship full of pirates dropping off a boatload of adventurers. And so it might turn out that the other two nations have different openings and introductions. I think it would be cool if this were the case. Otherwise all three nations will have the same intro with the boat instance, but that seems odd given that LL is based on sea travel and the others aren't.
Also on the subject of the cities. It seems as though in 14 they've resisted too strongly tying certain races to one nation (e.g. Tarutaru and Mithra from Windurst). In 14 it feels much more like the races are evenly dispersed all over any nation, despite the official lore putting an emphasis on certain generic regions.
Prishe is the only server for me.
I don't think they'll all be having the boat sequence, Ul'dah's all the way up in the mountains. Maybe they dump you off an airship or something. It seems as though the introductory part of the Alpha was tailored for Limsa Lominsa. A ship full of pirates dropping off a boatload of adventurers. does ZAM not work for anyone else 1/2 the time? :/ Idk if its just a UK thing, but me and my friends rarely get the page to load up
Works for me 100% of the time.
What he means is it looked like to raise STR (the actual attribute) by one, you need, let's say, 2 points. To raise it again, you need 4. To raise it again, you need 8.
You can see where that could go. At some point, the effort to raise one stat will probably be too big compared to focusing on others.
Numbers aren't exact and I didn't personally see this part of the stream, just reporting what I've been told and what I think he means.
Im pretty sure every game in the world that ever had stats able to be increased by the player, they would increase the higher they got. RO being a 'popular' example, and that didnt stop anyone from pouring all their stats in one or two groups.
I figured there'd be some sort of restriction to encourage people a bit more to spread their stats a little more evenly.
You'll be allowed to respec, hasn't been revealed yet. Probably a quest.Hmm. I hope they let you respec stats... It's not a bad idea or anything, but I'd hate to relevel a character cause I fucked up my distributions hardcore.
Yay for way more replayability, with retweaking stats :D
Was thinking maybe everyone might get the same beginning and go to LL as a tutorial, like how EQ2 starts. But now that I think about it, that seems a little unlikely... If the others are as awesome as LL opening then it's all good in the hood. Also, with the opening you get in LL, doesn't seem like if you were to switch nations ala XI to do missions, that you would get the same start.
If so, I might choose Ifrit, Titan, Leviathan, Garuda, Shiva, Ramuh, Alexander, Odin, Bahamut, Phoenix, Carbuncle, Fenrir, Diabolos, Cid, or Gilgamesh. IDK man.
EDIT: I hope Guildleves aren't the only quests outside of the main storylines. For some reason, I get a FF12/13 Mark vibe off them; hopefully more like 12's where I feel there was a greater purpose for each individual Mark, as opposed to 13's "My Focus was to kill <NOT A UNIQUE ENEMY> for some reason."
On a pretty much unrelated note, there is one thing XIV must have or I shall be very pissed: actual Gilgamesh battle!
I'm actually kind of excited by the prospect of finally being able to fight other hyur/elzen/etc as actual mobs instead of almost exclusively monsters.
A Biggs and Wedge cameo was also severely lacking in XI, wonder what was up with that.On a pretty much unrelated note, there is one thing XIV must have or I shall be very pissed: actual Gilgamesh battle!
