I hope it doesn't bother anyone too much and I hope nobody else mentioned it in the 8 pages so far, but I was noticing something about the 3 songs that played with the uploader. One of them was, of course, the limsa lominsa music. I thought that since there are 3 songs, there are 3 starting towns, and one of the songs was a starting town soundtrack, perhaps the other two are from the other two towns:

33: Gridania - This one sounds very town-like, especially with the clopping sounds partway through.

42: Ul'dah - I'm not a big fan of this one, but some parts have a distinct pseudo-desert style. Aside from the beginning, it does sound rather town-like.

39: Woods (Gridania newbie zone) - The style is very similar to 33, and it can't be from a CS because it picks up too much.

3E: Desert (Ul'dah starting zone) - Again, the style is very similar to 42, and it seems to be the only other distinctly desert-like song.

Flip 3E and 42 around and I think you have it. Ul'dah is 3E and outside desert area is 42.

Anyone else besides me feel their blood pump with excitement when listening to 0F? It's epic beyond words.

In my opinion it's the best track for an epic battle.

There aren't any songs that I really dislike per say, but I am feeling similar to others wondering how some of these tracks will fit into the game, I'm sure they will be used in ways we aren't expecting though.

I am loving the battle music.

I can see track 26 being port town music kind of like Mhaura or Selbina.

I'm loving 3A. I imagine myself exploring some new and strange cave, exploring its rich and mysterious wonders....

    and then dying.

I was surprised that nobody had said anything about 0F still, I agree it is the most epic song of all the OST, especially 0:53-1:20 and 1:53-2:16. The epicness reminds me a bit of Fight with Seymour from FFX (Black Mages version).

I'll be replacing bunch them with tunes from FFXII soundtrack (best sountrack ever, go Sakimoto!). Battle music (one in website) is pretty weak as well, but thank god we've got Hamazau (XIII) for that.

Plenty of great tracks but overall I'm not a big fan of the style as a whole. Still, who knows...maybe they'll just blend well with the game itself.

given that we've had about a month to let the music 'steep' since it got leaked.. i'm going to say that I have to agree that the music isn't all that great.

nostalgia aside, the tracks do seem to pack a lot of nice ambient numbers and some emotional pieces.. but the variety of battle themes seems oddly lacking.

by range i mean themes that suit different levels of battle intensity. none of the tracks that are supposedly 'normal battle' themes are actually that good, if gamescom alpha and alpha1 examples are anything to go by (even tho personally the gamescon one (1B) feels far better if used for normal battles than 15..

Other possible battle tracks like 0C, 0E and 0F seem a bit over the top for normal battles... so I really wonder how Uematsu will be assigning music especially for battles

I had the master set but started renaming them according to where they appear in the game thus far from reports and all

    updates:
    at least for Alpha 1,

    1B is dungeon battle music
48 is used during a mining guild leve
49 is used during a synthing guild leve

Just to remind Uematsu how a real "battle theme" should be...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tojdtfyKWP4

This would certainly be too "heavy" for a regular battle theme but...didn't hear anything close to this in entire OST.

Those aren't boss themes, THIS is a boss theme:

Fuck yes, Lufia's boss battle theme was the best! That's how you do guitar riffs on a SNES cartridge.

I dunno. A song passes my personal test when I can listen to it for over a half hour straight without getting bored of it. It just so happens that most songs from the NES/SNES days pass that test.

It has nothing to do with the fact that many of their tracks loop more quickly and as such, I've heard them more and have been programmed to like it. Nope. Not at all.

Seriously though, that song is hot shit, though I listen to Sabre's Edge just as much (especially for raid fights in WoW).

agree to XII boss battle and the 2 XIII tracks. the other 2 not so much.

The issue here isn't that XIV thus far doesnt have battle tracks. It has plenty, but it doesn't have any good generic normal battle tracks.

boss battle tracks on the other hand are much easier to make, as long as they have one (or more) of what I consider the 5 key elements in any boss track.
    - Adrenaline (fast paced beat, makes you feel excited)
    - Tension (an uneasing sound. usually in the form of a rhythm or instrument used, usually violins, not necessarily fear.. just makes u uncomfortable)
    - Grandiosity (sounds grand / epic or whatever)
    - Fear (kinda close to grandiosity, but a sound that makes it feel fearful, evil sounding)
    - Emotion (using a melody that relates to something or somewhere else within the game to draw an emotional connection to that)

Uematsu's boss battle tracks don't usually draw on tension and gradiosity, which is why they don't seem fitting for some people as boss battle tracks..
but you can find some of them that could possibly work well as boss battles, situational battles or scenario fights..

    like
    0F
    08
    09 - albeit kinda kooky
    12
    18
    19
    22
    38

    these are all fine.
Its the generic battle tracks that are lacking.

P.S. i love Saber's Edge. Its got adrenalin, grandiosity, tension, emotion and a bit of fear too... definitely one of the best battle tracks I've ever heard.

I'd like to see something like Romancing SaGa's music score in XIV for battle music:

That Lufia II track was pretty good to.
