Am absolutely in love with 3F. Best song for me on the entire list.
I didn't want to make a new thread for this and I thought this would be the best place to put it so...does anyone know which/if any of the tracks listed on the na.FFXIV site correspond to the cities? I'm assuming they do but they are just listed as track 1,2,3 etc. Thanks in advance.
Personally, if I didn't remember anything from two different soundtracks aside from a very minute amount of tracks I'd call them failed soundtracks. If you can't remember them, then it didn't make enough of an impact and wasn't that good. Of FFXII, all I remember is the opening Prologue music and that's not say much else for the soundtrack. Of FFXIII, I remember the main motif (Battle/Lightning) and the horrendous butchering of a chocobo track.
I'd hardly call that 'great'.
I really enjoyed FFXII and FFXIII soundtracks as well, but I didn't find that boss music all that fitting. I know a lot of people prefer the more calm, deliberate boss themes from FFX and onwards, but the more aggressive tracks from the PS1 generation games seem much better suited for boss fights, and it's a shame those kind of compositions get relegated only to major fights now (FFXII esper music and Seymour Omnis come to mind).
FFXII's 2nd boss theme has plenty of that.
Meh, I wasn't crazy about the regular boss music, although the esper and Gilgamesh themes were great.
Also, my nominee for best boss music:
I think you meant to link this, sir.
Or one to fit your theme of sounding a bit more aggresive and such...
Spoiler: show
That Chrono Cross battle music is amazing.
Gonna' have to say Decisive Battle. The Black Mages aren't my thing, but Dissidia brought the quality up enough for me. I want to hear a real orchestrated version somehow... maybe more organ-centric than electric guitar.

Oh yeah.

Indeed!
PM please?
This.
Yeah, man... The Darkness Nova is great. Even the remix version from that other mana game was great.
Overall (imo) Yoko Shimomura is just great, especially for epic boss themes (like the two I posted above)
20 has been my favourite track of all since listening to these a while back, when I heard it kick in on the latest CGI trailer I was like omg. OST as a whole are really nice though, can't wait for the expansions, hope Nobuo continues to do them in the future of FFXIV
Alright, fuck all yall. Don't make me have to start busting out the Breath of Fire songs. Nobody wants to try to top the Sten vs. Trubo cliff-dueling theme.
Here it is.
A few years ago I used to say, "The Darkness Nova is the first and second greatest boss battle theme." Kingdom Hearts games knocked the Dawn of Mana version down a few pegs though.
Anyway, basically... if Yoko Shimomura would ever do anything for FFXIV that would be a guaranteed sub for me and I'd masturbate with great fervor.
