I just oversimplified to get my point across, but no, I don't think they are making the same game over and over again either. I'm just disappointed that the battle system is still so "boring" to play because of the limitations of the original Gamebody.
And yes, the battle system is solid, but lacks variety because a huge chunk of Pokemons have such weak stats that there is no reason to use them, unless you enforce Under Used rules which everyone has to agree to (and some Pokemons will still fall to the Never Used category, which isn't even completely defined).

All it would take is a new move/movepool, new Pokepower or evolution to double or triple the OU category, and I can agree that I want more than that if this is really going to redefine the series.

Yeah, I admit that I would love it if they found a way to keep the battle system recognizable but still make it feel fresh. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Should put some meta strategies in to make people prepare for them. I would shit myself if I saw a gym leader setting up a fear ratata or a BPing smeargle => sweeper.

Also, the whole gym leader = monotype team thing needs a revamp imo. They are too easy to counter. I think the 8 gym leaders should have more balanced teams, or at least the elite four should. In fact, more trainers in general that don't just run teams of all bugs or all birds or all water pokemon would be better.

EDIT: The series is going through evolution as series tend to do, but evolution never turns a monkey into a frog. Until they turn Pokemon into a "SRPG" or an action-game(as which point is becomes a new series) you shouldn't expect whatever qualifies as "world changing"(however undefinable that will be) in your minds... you will just be disappointed.

Most changes throughout the series can be made to sound small because each game builds on the former. Pokemon has generally only added more and more features with the next game. (Note: Going back to Kanto isn't a fucking feature)

That move is the sole reason I stopped caring about competitive battling and I just stick to the offline games until I get tired (typically within a week).

I would prefer being able to have a move pool as high as 16 moves and just equip 4 at a time.

EDIT: Also items which can be used in place of Pokemon HMs. e.g. an inflatable raft which is only good for one use. Stock up at Pokemart, only available after defeating the gym leader, etc.

I like BRP's Dark/Fighting/Psychic starter idea. I doubt it will be backwards compatible with the old generation though, I mean it's cool that they are doing it and all but there is just so much shit from HG/SS to P/D/Pt to R/S to FR/LG, etc. etc. It's all bullshit man, it's about time for a fresh start with no more trading from old games.

These things would also be fine. Just anything that doesn't ruin my pokemons movesets or force me to make my 6th pokemon a HM mule for certain dungeons.

It's funny, back when Ruby and Sapphire were released, I was pissed off that I couldn't trade my Pokemons from Red and Silver, but now I wish they would've actually scrapped the whole Pal Park idea.
For example, you can actually get Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres in three different games that allow trading with eachother (Gale of Darkness, LeafGreen/FireRed, HeartGold/SoulSilver). For Pokemons that are supposed to be unique, they sure seem to pop up everywhere.

How about you just don't buy it? Nobody is forcing you to play a MMO if they release one. Some people would have a lot of fun with it.
