No — the title of this article is not a joke nor is it incorrect. Gamers in Japan will soon be able to play their PlayStation 3’s outside of the house and pretty much anywhere they’d like to. Some of you may remember those old LCD contraptions that you could hook onto your gaming console in order to play anywhere, well, they’ve designed one for the PlayStation 3.

Japanese peripheral company, Hori, has created a 720P LCD that attaches to a PlayStation 3 slim allowing for portable gaming. The peripheral is officially licensed by Sony and is set to release in Japan on May 27th for $276.

And if I am understanding the specs on the Hori site correctly, this will also work with the NA & EU ps3's.

Oh shit, its coming out on my birthday. I should drop some heavy hints. Though honestly, I don't think I would want, need, or ever be able to play ps3 on the go lol.

From what I remember reading it's only semi-portable as you have to plug it in. I'm not sure if there is a battery add-on or whatever.

Still neat if you want to go on vacation or visit family with it but you won't have access to a HDTV. 720p is better than a SDTV, that's for sure.

I remember something like this for ps2...it didn't sell well. I don't think it'll ever see a release outside of japan anyway.

Shame there's no support for the millions of existing PS3 fats with it. ;/

I mean, obviously there'd be concerns of it blocking part of the vents on a fat, but I wouldn't have minded something like this if I could just place it beside the PS3.

What's with the USB cord anyhow? I didn't think it'd have the juice to power a 720p screen unless displays these days have become very energy efficient.

Actually owned something similar to this for the gamecube.

Playing SSBM on the go was win.

It would be nice to have some games on the go lan parties etc can set up a PS3 on the side without having to bring out TVs.

Though for the most part I find this product useless. Portable entertainment is handled better by laptops and even phones.

If there is eventually a battery add-on for this, can you imagine how fast it's gonna go dead? rofl.

I honestly can't think of anywhere outside of like, my car, that I'd want a PS3. And even then, I'm stuck driving.

Could always put a PS3 in your throne room. PS3 on the toilet, PS3 in the tub, PS3 while brushing your teeth.

I don't know, nothing practical comes to mind.

Replace that keyboard with a giant fucking battery that will last at least 10 hrs and we're good.

not pictured: that ps3 will drain the battery on any japanese car in roughly 2-3 minutes if the engine isn't running

I had one for 2 years when it first came out, I had one game for like a year because everything was garbage. Guess what that didnt change lol
