is it running Windows 7? And did it go into hibernate mode? Does it go back to normal when you reboot?

if so, there's your problem. It's a really common problem apparently and there's no official fix for it yet (hopefully there will be in SP1). I think turning off hibernate(and sleep?) mode will keep it from happening, but then again, your laptop will never hibernate/sleep so it will consume a lot of battery power if it's not plugged in.

nah i rebooted and it stayed blacked out.. i took it to best buy and there like it'll take 2-3 weeks to get repaired or we can give you store credit since you're within you're one yr warranty..

I took the credit and got an updated model lol..

i7 > dual core.. was an easy decision

Yeah, once the backlight goes out on an LCD/Laptop, you're better off getting a new one, replacing that backlight is expensive and very, very difficult.

Depends on if you know how to open the notebook yourself. My GF broke her screen and I bought a new one online for that computer for about $100 from an online screen shop in Canada www.screencountry.com . The computer was a model from October, and I replaced the screen in January. Backlight tends to be attached to the screen, so you replace both. Stores like Office Depot and Best Buy will charge about $500-600 for the repair for the parts, shipping, and labor, but if you know how to replace the screen yourself you only need the parts. The computer manufacturer also won't sell you just the screen, they want their technicians to do the repair, so you get billed $400+.

Depends on the manufacturer/warranty. When the laptops at my job break, and are out of warranty, Dell will just ship the part we request.
