Shadow Lord:
- ~35-40K HP
- Very high defense.
(Avg Melee Hit from relic DRK/NIN was ~75-85 dmg. Cata was ~380. Gekko was averaging ~650.)
- Very Evasive. (Core->Bomblet, Turban->Ace's, Justice->PCC, Dusk+1->Homam Hands, Blitz Ring->Sniper's+1, Cerb+1->Chuchu Mantle, only put me at 89% acc.) (Was able to get 95% /w pizza and keeping full haste~)
- Shadow Lord attacks noticeably slow with Slow II/Elegy on. Both were not difficult to land it seems. (He does seem to speed up around ~25%).
- Stun lands, it's great. Resists the last 25% regardless of usage.
- Hits melee for ~250-300. Hits Mages for ~300-350.
As mentioned he has two phases, 1 Sword and 2 Swords. I didn't notice if his phase change was random, HP based, or time based, but during a phase change he is immune to damage/debuff. (Think of the Cerb Assault where it howls between phase changes.) (Note: He still only attacks once per attack round while using two swords.)
Shadow Lord will also randomly remove people in range from enmity list. (But not remove hate.) Similar to Sarameya after it howls. It was hard to tell when it occurred since we usualli got a melee hit in before he ran to the mages. But it seemed to happen randomly after TPs/Phase changes. Any action taken by the melee on SL fixes this problem easy.
TPs:
TP usage is based on which phase he's currently in:
1-Sword:
-Umbral Orb. AoE, Goes threw shadows, but does not wipe them. ~350 damage.
-Spell Wall. Absorbs Magic Damage for ~45-60 seconds. (His Arm/Chest crystals glow blue.)
-Cruel Slash. Aoe. Blinkable by 2-3 Shadows. Amnesia. Medium Damage.
-Vicious Kick. Frontal AoE. Medium Knockback + Paralyze. Blinkable by 1-2 Shadows.
-Boon Void. Single target, Medium Damage. Blinkable by 2-3 Shadows. Dispels 3 buffs if you're hit.
2-Sword:
-Shadow Spawn. Spawns 2 Shadows. We've just been sac'ing them, so I can't tell you much. One time the RDM only managed to pull one. They both still depopped when the RDM died.
-Soma Wall. Absorbs Melee Damage for ~45-60 seconds. (His Arm/Chest crystals glow red.)
-Cross Smash. Medium Damage Single Target. Defense Down (~50%). Blinkable by 2 Shadows.
-Blighting Blitz. Single Target, High Damage. 4-hit + Curse(~25% HP Down). (Appears to take reduced damage if you have some blinks up.)
Around 35% and Below he appears to gain access to two new TP moves:
-Implosion. ~350 AoE Damage. Removes Blinks. Medium Knockback. HP Down (~50%)
-Doom Arc. AoE. Removes Blinks. ~350 Damage. Gives you standard Doom. Holy Waters + Cursna worked fine~
It's possible I placed a TP in the wrong category, or that it was able to use certain TP moves in both phases. But that list
For the actual fight, we just used the same strategy as people have mentioned. We fight SL where he starts near the stairs to his throne. We had the 2 mages stay at the top of steps to be out of AoE range and still cure the melee. The sac stands between the SL and Entrance. When adds popped the sac would diaga, run to the entrance and die. Adds would depop.
It's worth noting that I strongly recommend having DD use /NIN. While it's not needed, it makes the fight much easier. Shadow Lord attacks slow, he's predictable, and 30 minutes is a ton of time to complete the BC. (We took about 11-12 minutes /w DRK DRK SAM. 13 min /w DRK + SAM.)
When it uses Soma Wall/Spell Wall, you actualli have a good amount of time to react before he starts absorbing. It's easy to sneak in a ws before unlocking and turning your back. (Nothing like HQ Sandworm.) As was pointed out by others, you can watch the glowing crystals to know when it wears off~
He doesn't appear to have regain which I find kind of odd considering the GSD. When he used Soma Wall and we turned, it was easy to blink off his slow attacks, and he never used another TP move. A party struggling /w MP can unlock/turn and back tank until MP problems are solved.
Every TP move has a small charge-up. This makes every TP fairly easy to stun. Even Shadow Spawn. (I stunned 3/4 during 1 BC.) Having a DRK for this BC is great imo. As I mentioned above, 25% it outright resists stun, so it won't be useful~
I did use Souleater/BW once /w Apoc just to see how it'd do. It worked normalli. The Phase Shifts where he'll resist all melee/magic and stun resist the last 25% provides for ample anti-zerg though.
Getting to the BC sucks as much as you'd think it does. Xarc [S] isn't too bad. But you still need to watch out for imps, flying dragons, and a few Taurus roaming the cliffs to Castle. (Note the door to Keep requires you to select an option. Don't hope to train a ton of shit and zone easy.) Inside Castle there's only 2 imps otw Keep. Past them are some Demons. (You can run to zone, but demons are fast, so you better have some DMG reduction if you plan to do it.) Keep sucks. The rooms /w all gates/doors have Sneak/Invis Gargoyle things. They do link. If you can sneak past the first few while managing to open the doors. The last few rooms only have 1 Gargoyle per room. The stairs up to the next level only have 1 Floating Eye which is easy to avoid. We used this area to logout sleeping Gargoyle hate. Next floor only has turtles so it's easy to keep sneak on and open the gates/doors. The rest of the path is fairly straight forward like Castle in present. Re-apply sneak after each teleport. There's 2 Taurus in the area right before throne room. Easy to ninja/sleep and run to the door~
Hope that helps a bit for anyone attempting the BC this coming week~
