April 9, 2010 - Traditionally, Yu-Gi-Oh has found its home on the Nintendo DS and the PSP. The portable nature of those platforms, along with the fact that Yu-Gi-Oh appeals primarily to a younger audience, has made Konami tentative to expand the brand into the more hardcore consoles. That's about to change with Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels, on its way to the Xbox Live Arcade.

Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh will find this release to be a bit of a departure from the norm. For starters, it isn't aligned with any one card series. The developers have instead gone through the entire history of the franchise to put together a set of classics for you to build a deck with. With the addition of online play and voice chat, Yu-Gi-Oh on XBLA will also support four player matches in a two on two format.

Fans of the card battle series will find that this is still very much a game about building out a deck and trading tactics with opponents on the board. There's a career mode which follows the story of the animated series in which players can fight through battles to unlock cards (I'm told it will take about 1,000 victories to earn every card). Those that want the easy route out will find booster packs that can be bought through Xbox Live to instantly trick out their deck for a cost.

Once you have a solid set of cards and have built out your deck, it's time to venture online. Players who think they're hot stuff can head to a ranked match to see if they can't climb up the online leaderboards. Others can go for a quick match or custom match, thereby getting something less stressful or more suited to your particular tastes.

The success of Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers last year showed that there is most definitely a market for card battle games on Xbox Live. Yu-Gi-Oh is looking to build on that foundation later this year. Stay tuned for more.

Glad that they've at least offered a means of getting all the cards through normal play rather than forcing players to shell out extra cash to be 'better'.

Same. Though it would heavily depend on what set it's up to and how often they update. Since it's downloadable content, I would assume it would update every time a new set came out, but who knows.

Havent played yugioh in ages due to the cost of the physical cards, id certainly get it if it came out for psn. (no xbox here).

I have always been interested in trying out Yu-Gi-Oh, but never found a good game that would teach me how to play it. Would rather it on PSN as I prefer it, but if it gets good reviews and teaches well, will prolly get it.

This actually sounds... really terrible compared to the Tag Force games on the PSP, or even the DS ones. I'm seeing limited card availability, pay-to-acquire booster packs, nothing really "new" outside of voice chat, and a minimally improved game interface from the 5D's Tag Force game.

I have to admit, I saw the thread and went "oh fuck, awesome, hope they bring it to PSN", but after actually reading the "features" of this little title, I'm just left sitting here going "bleh". If you want a decent Yu-Gi-Oh game, stick with the PSP ones.

I want a yugioh game where the AI isn't so horribly retarded. I swear they make the most dumbest plays imaginable, it makes having fun in tag duels impossible.

Except those PSP ones lack online play, I believe it was stated that all cards could be earned through regular gameplay.

Tag force 4 has adhoc play. I played someone once on adhoc party on ps3 with it and it worked out fine.

Regular AdHoc Play is a sad excuse when the DS versions are capable of doing online, I know of AdHoc Party but it isn't an option for everyone.

QFT. I think it would do rather well on PS3 also. I'd buy it for sure. I'm sick of buying and playing on my DS every year! ..........I'm lying. I love it! But I would love it if I had another system to play it on. I don't like the PSP ones as much.

How well does the PSP/DS version of the games introduce the games to someone who knows nothing at all about the game except its based on the card game? Would prefer a DS version, so I guess which DS one teaches the best or all they all equal in that sense?

Well to my knowledge the DS games have Tutorials but you have to actively seek them out.

yeah, the yugioh games aren't to kind to the less informed. You have to dig around in menus to find a FAQs menu. It's not a tutorial, just laid out information.

I never played the pokemon cardgame, but it looks interesting enough for me that if a new card game video game came out for it, I'd buy it.
