It confuses me so much that you and pchan say this, because when it comes to melee damage maths you're both usually right... but you can't honestly believe this can you? MNK/NIN's raw damage output pales in comparison to that of a SAM/WAR or WAR/SAM, and this is coming from someone whose only 75 melee is, in fact, an Usu/Black Belt MNK which I enjoy playing very much indeed.
Please take this opportunity to clarify why exactly you think this to be true.
yyyeah, sorry. MNK can't beat 2her WS damage or frequency, and the strength of their melee cycles don't make up for that. In high evasion/level correction situations it's not even a contest.
Maybe they're using MNK/WAR? idk
(I moved the edit down because your response was much earlier.)
DRG would average 7-10k (I really don't see anyone getting 10k on Sea Puks, sorry.) vs BLU averaging 8-12k. Before Magic Hammer, it was a lot harder to keep a chain on BLU and I was able to out-gain exp on DRG easily.
I haven't been able to do any exp soloing since I got my Gungnir 7 months ago. If you know a good supply of Sea Puks that aren't at the staging point and would keep a 10k/hr average consistently, I'll certainly love to go give them a try.
Then it would be plausible but hilariously impractical. Although, I have used some decent MNK/WARs at colibris because their high max HP makes them really easy for a DRG to heal, and it's still not as if they demolish everyone in the parser, for whatever that anecdotal bullshit is worth.
I mean I parsed almost exactly 50:50 on MNK/WAR against my well-geared WAR/SAM friend who has E.body and the Magians OAT great axe during our last Bhaflau run, so I fully understand that MNK has the potential to be a total powerhouse in certain situations, but I also realise that most of the time it's going to be no competition, certainly not when you're talking MNK/NIN.
Ok I'm pretty sure i will do 4/8 sword and blu magic 8/8 that should be enough for BLU (Like i said i have a lot of stuff for it like homam 5/5, enkidu legs, af2 body, soon Maat's cap, morrigan hands, cassandra helenus earrings etc. and i dont see an expensive or hard to get r/e item i will need for BLU only)
There is 16 merit in combat left now:
Imo GKT dont need merits as much as others so h2h,polearm,archery.
1. 8 h2h 8 polearm
2. 8 h2h 8 archery
3. 8 h2h 4 polearm 4 archery?
I ideal situation I would try to make Yoichi(Its 220 M on Ramuh counting w/o last 30) and I would have no trouble to choose but In optimistic situation all I can do is cheap relic and here choice is simple Spharai. It cant be a main reason which job i should play cuz i'm a dreamer and chance i will make Spharai in this year is about 20% with condicion of market we have now.
Ah....reading about these constant debates makes one want to break out the popcorn.
In the end it all comes down to what you want to play there OP. MNK and SAM do share a fair bit of gear, however the WS gear still needs to be pursued independently for either class depending on the WS. Full usukane could potentially be shared between them though.
It does come down to the fact though that SE has given a lot more potent tools to 2H in comparison to basically well...any one handed class.
Ah...those two sets do indeed have quite a bit that overlap if one is going down that route in comparison to an asuran set.
Offtopic: Imo on soloing Gungnir makes a very big difference mainly cuz of def down add effect.
Ontopic:
1. Is 295 base mp enough for BLU beside soloing?
2. I also wonder how can MNK/nin be better on dmg then sam/war on something harder
3. Is Spharai MNK has any chance to be allowed to put on some harder NM?
counter w/o counterstance with spharai with this http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=135431 set can go up to 34. counterstance is bad for something that can aoe physical dmg that goes through shadows or multihit.
Offtopic: What you think about this set http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=136043?
Agree with this ^ and Yugl's/Sho post. BLU is just such a versatile job, so many aspects to it that will only get bigger once update hits and we get new spells. We need to bump the BLU findings thread lol, I need some BLU talk.
Are you talking at 75, or your current level? That seems a bit low otherwise... Is that with all your gear included? Is 295 base mp enough for BLU beside soloing?
295 seems sort of low for base mp, I just switched to 75BLU and naked I'm at 572, are you a Galka?
The thing with BLU is (especially given it's wide range of versatility) that it's based on the person who's behind the keyboard. More than any job in FFXI, if not, borderline what Avista can do on RDM where others can't.
I've had my fair share of gaming and seen strats come and go. Take Magic the Gathering for instance. When I was playing during the "Black Summer" of 93, there were rarely places where people even netdecked or how you might say, cookie cutter stuff. Just groups of people in SoCal having their own meta games, as if it was almost an entirely different metagame in each city. It was just as rewarding to see two almost entirely different decks go at it with their own gimmics. Though I'm sure they're not the first to think of the deck considering the limited card pool back then, but that's where you build your foundation from your failures by learning from your mistakes.
Now a days though, people just Google in the latest regional deck and just copy it. The decklist is right there, people just eBay all the parts and play it like their own. Kinda like people that do SAM builds here on BG. It's shown it works through parses, but a lot of times, people fail to understand that some jobs aren't designed for parses. They go beyond that and sometimes that experience pays off. Even if the guys that copied that regional deck won't have the same seasoned grit and wear compared to the guy that original came up with the design, much less make winning decisions.
You can generalize that every endgame BLU is a moron based on the random ones that idle in WG, but that's really unfair to say. How I view BLU is like viewing the Shotokans (Ryu/Ken). Everyone has access to the basic 3: Hurrican Kick, Dragon Punch, and Fireball, but just because you can throw a Fireball, doesn't mean you should. Once in a while, after playing against tons of Shotokan scrubs, you'll meet one that knows how to use it. They didn't magically read that shit off some message board on how to use Ryu/Ken, but most likely through experience and timing, unlike all the scrubs you just trashed.
This applies to BLU in FFXI as well. BLU has so many tools at their disposal, but at the same time, people that use it make similar mistakes like Shotokan scrubs. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Your personal judgment, experiences and timing cannot be learned from copying a decklist or even gear sets. Do they aid a person, I definitely agree they do, but they only help so much.
Even simply being told to "stun" all incoming TP moves a mob does can easily separate a veteran BLU from a scrub. There's more than 1 stun option for BLU, which people generalize it's only just Head Butt. Sometimes, even a BLU that opts for Flat Blade over Vorpal can save lives.
I'm going to quote something very cliche but it applies to BLU in so many ways:
Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

So to ask the OP the question, do you want to be challenged or do you want a 6-hit job?
Whenever acc can be a problem or high def Howling fist should be better. Also sometimes Ascetic Fury can do impressive dmg but howling fist is more avg (Ascetic is worth when doing Light imo).
Also on my ffxiah profil I like to make dream sets and MNk have access to some pwng set imo.
Idk if acc is a problem on MNK realy if you have those gear
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=134981
TP set with 25% haste +81 acc +60att (counting dex and str)
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=134985
Ws set with +110 acc +66att (counting dex and str)
You could probably make also a very potent on acc att and stats WS set for holwing on HNM.
