I would also consider it one of the hardest jobs to be exceptional at and you seem like someone who cares to use a job to its max potential. From what I understand you don't have a mage job or a tank job, if that's the case, I honestly suggest staying away until you at least have taken one of the types to 75 and built the types of gear sets required to make them functional. I'd recommend Sam, Mnk, Rng, Drg as the gear can be crossover/complementing amongst those jobs.... sort of.

Edit: This coming from someone who loves the job and has spent years working on hers and doing testing/experimenting/inventing with the job. If you are not "all about it", don't bother.
    My PLD is 75.
I care a lot about sets and everything about the job.
Check my ffxiah sets even that i only consider doing any job I already have like 10 sets for it. Also my copy-book is full of all possible sets of blu equip spell for most events I do and once again I am only consdering lvl BLU.
I was talking with some RNG last week about RNGs. 10 mins later he said i know more about the ranger then most relic RNGs. I dont want to boast here but I am seriously taking this game much to serious than i should. Macros for MNK i was doing for like 6h testing everything to be perfect. Also limiting BLU for cannonball HNMs and disseverment birds is last thigng i like to do with this job, and I am pretty sure I am now better BLU than most I saw.

And there we have a perfect example of a puppetmaster(blu) whom has obtained some sort of mistaken belief that his job is the "hot shit" in addition to being " too complex/mysterious for the peons" and anyone whom says otherwise is suffering from a brain aneurysm.
When confronted with the fact even the jobs held in the least regard are more useful to situations they will have a "temper tantrum" and posture themselves in an arrogant manner while mistakenly believing that such actions make them look as if they're something other than a dipshit.
Now let's go prod it again and see what it does.

A handful of best jobs? Yup, it sure does. Denying that is absolutely ridiculous.

Nobody is telling you to stop playing BLU. Personally, I'm glad that you enjoy the job so much. After all, this is a game, and if you're not enjoying yourself, why are you playing? Our only issue is that you're trying to preach as if BLU is better than other jobs, when its quite clearly not.

The silliness that is this thread now interests me.

    Yes.... yes keep arguing...

Also this is the third time I'll agree that other jobs outdo BLU. Yes I am a BLU main and I agree.

Nah I have never stated that BLU is the best job overall. I simply talked about its versatility. I love BLU but it sucks it's such a underrated job because others don't see it in use enough by someone who is educated on the mechanics of the job. You get gimps that drag the job through the mud all the time. Personally everytime I shout for ISNM or some random thing and have to pick up strangers I rarely invite BLU. Unless I know them or have seen their gear/knowledge of the job I expect they are like the rest, many BLU are complete trash. I know obviously there are these people on other jobs, but around 80% chance you pick up a BLU it will be a gimp.

And there we have a perfect example of a puppetmaster(blu) whom has obtained some sort of mistaken belief that his job is the "hot shit" in addition to being " too complex/mysterious for the peons" and anyone whom says otherwise is suffering from a brain aneurysm.

Well what can you do, its a underrated job and through the fact gimps have dragged it through the mud you get a lot of biased opinions on the job. Only natural someone would defend what they feel. The complexity was already touched upon, its due to the fact you have to specialize and have those gear sets to even function on the job. That alone is a major reason why it is more complex than others.

My knowing that BLU lacks a true niche in this game has nothing to do with a stigma. My disposition towards BLU stems entirely from my understanding that, in this game, there is irrefutably a good, a better, and a best at everything, and the job doesn't fall into "best" at anything.

Personally, I don't like to be doing worse when I know I could be doing better, which is why I don't touch the job. That doesn't mean, however, that I care enough to make someone else stop playing said job. Moral of the story? Play what you want, but don't pretend its something that its not.

What the hell are you on seriously? This is just a topic about a guy wanting an opinion on what job he should level and even tho it turned into a discussion about the viable use of BLU, nobody even made any attacks at anyone until you pulled out this stupid welfare card on Failure.

I mean seriously the way you worded this you're making it sound like you're saying Failure is on Welfare which comes off as a personal attack.

I agreed with the openess of your 1st post on this thread but you tripped on yourself when you started flinging insults.

Honestly I see him as someone who loves the job a lot and just gets pissed at players who bash on BLU without actually leveling it or using it seriously themselves.

I leveled DRG to 75 back in '04 and even tho I still love the job now, I knew back then it was lolDRG for the longest damn time. Now it's a staple job for a lot of events which I'm very thankful for but to be fair to Draylo, It also had and still has it's fair share of retards who gear it up so god damn bad that it makes me want to punch a kitten.

    Yvonne,
I don't have anything bad to say about you personally but, you really need to leave the real life card out of this and back off with the snarky comments because it's making you look like a total ass.

Don't misunderstand versatility to mean mediocre or poor. BLU is a top DD on a lot of fights, can still keep going even when weakened, awesome at stun lock, great tank, among a lot of other things. It can excel at those areas and rival a lot of jobs, not be mediocre. Best at stun locking as well on long duration fights.

There is a reason that the old adage "Jack of all trades" ends with "Master of none".

BLU can do a lot of things, but they don't do it as well as the jobs that were designed to fill those roles.

Complexity, macros, equipment sets... none of these overcome the fundamental argument that Tsuko is making. Versatility is nice, and if you like to play it then go ahead, but don't delude yourself into thinking that it makes you the best at everything.

Same thing applies to this post. BLU being very versatile doesn't mean its mediocre at all those aspects. BLU is a very good DD.... and an awesome stun lock job.

    @1: Like what?

@2: And this is an example of a superfluous niche. Tanking is easy enough already, there's no reason to have someone there for the purpose of "stun-locking". Ask any tank: they'd rather the person came as a job that's going to make the fight faster, not easier, and there are certainly jobs more suited for that task than BLU.

Most of the time people will not want to invite blus to a party because its a lot easier to be bad at blu then say sam, and most likely will result in an efficiency loss for the party. I seen people do a ton of stupid stuff with this job ranging from spamming 80 damage vorpal blades or running themselves out of MP and resting every other pull (the OMG look at all my damage mentality but now I got to rest cause of no MP). The number of bad blu players greatly outnumbers ones that might be good.

So in the end people will take that poorly geared sam vs taking a bigger risk of a larger damage loss by inviting a blu.

@1 Temperance, find me a job that can DD this better than BLU.

@2 Not always the case... sometimes when you are low manning things BLU can really shine with that stun lock. You also seem to forget BLU can also DD ontop of that, no reason they can only be there for one purpose. I meant long duration in regards to something you don't zerg down, in which case a rdm/drk would be better. So any fight you take time to actually kill, such as fighting a dahak or something.

It has very little to do with it being easier to be bad at one job the other, it has to do with the fact that one job is inherently weaker than the other. A bad, average, and excellent blue mage is still going to be weaker than a respectively bad, average, and excellent samurai.

Fair enough, but you should also not confuse it to mean best or even good, either.

What fights? I think you mean that BLU can SA Cannonball every minute and then that means they are a top DD on "a lot of fights".

A plus in their favor, but not a really big plus. And definitely not enough to overcome the fact that most DD's crush them in a normal zerg situation (the only kind of situation when doing damage while weakened would be meaningful).

No. Sorry, by that definition of "tank" anything that subs NIN is a great tank. If they were a great tank then people would use them as tanks. "Marginally decent at pulling in Einherjar" does not make you a tank.

You can imagine you are the best at everything in the world, but that doesn't make it so. Stun locking at melee range doesn't matter for non-zerg fights. And on zerg fights RDM/DRK kills BLU at stunning, and doesn't have to worry about accuracy.

If you like BLU then by all means play the job, but I just don't know why so many BLUs delude themselves into believing it is some kind of super job that can do everything in the game better than everyone else.

Corsair's Quick Draw damage isn't effected and you don't need to time it due to the piss poor range of blue magic spells.

You do realize what tools BLU has to make it an awesome tank? This is something that not every job can do with just /nin..

At melee range. Not so great when you need a high-success stun.
BLU has a very high success stun, aside from Head butt which is the most useful one, we have temporal shift which functions just like Stun although high recast timer.

You can imagine you are the best at everything in the world, but that doesn't make it so. Stun locking at melee range doesn't matter for non-zerg fights. And on zerg fights RDM/DRK kills BLU at stunning, and doesn't have to worry about accuracy.
Again, for the 500th time, I didn't say its the best at everything in the world... Stop assuming that. Yes it matters on non-zerg fights, some things you low man and it can be invaluable in regards to saving MP/HP/lives.

BLU is a nifty job for doing Temperance with a group, I'll give you that, but I also don't see the point in doing anything other than Love with a group.

Don't forget who's linkshell I'm in; All Thorny does is low-man. There are more player-efficient ways to compact roles together than with BLU. A RDM/DRK can serve as the primary enhancer in the party while also keeping tabs on anything that needs to be stunned with ease. A DRK/NIN can tank, deal excellent damage, and also do a fair amount of stunning as well.

You still won't do as much as a properly geared and prepared BLU.
