    Desktop PC problems :x

A few days ago I wanted to install a new Hard Drive into my HPm8000 that I got about a year ago. Problem was my case was to small. After trying to figure out how to get everything out of my case , I ended up transferring all of my HP computer into a new case, and ended up having to get a new power supply.

I have two problems that came along with all of this:

First is my new case has two fans that are both connected to the power supply, while my old case had one fan that was connected directly to the mother board. All my fans are working like the should but every time I boot up I get a "fatal error" with my fan that I have to press f2 to bypass. I'm guessing its looking for my fan connected to the motherboard. Is there any way to get rid of that error?

    My second problem is that I cannot connect to the internet anymore. When I try to connect it says that I'm connected to an unidentified network and limited connectivity. Everything on my wireless network is working find and my Xbox that's connected by ethernet is working correctly to. I've done all the obvious stuff (reset my router, check my wires, ect.) along with some things I've searched online, involving the TCPIP(I wasn't really sure what I was doing, I guess resetting stuff, I was following tutorials >_>). I should probably also note I'm using Windows Vista Is my ethernet broked? I was thinking about saying fuck it and buy a wireless USB adapter I don't know if that would fix anything either... >_>;

Does it specify which fan? CPU fan?

When you switched cases, did you also reinstall your OS/etc, or not? Are you trying to connect your PC to the network by wire or wireless? Maybe I'm not reading it correctly.

Pretty sure the only way to get that error to not show up is to attach a fan to the connector. I'm pretty sure you can find an adapter to connect one of your fans.. or find a jumper to fit that connector and close the circuit.

...or you can pull the fan with the right connector out of the old case.

The error says "System Fan Has Failed." and I'm 99.999% sure that its talking about the case fan(the one that was screwed into the back of the case).

My new case had two fans in it, both are different sizes from my old fan, so I can't screw in the old fan to the new case.

I did not reinstall anything. Same OS that was on there. Everything is working fine except for the internet. I am trying to connect via wire.

Try updating your motherboard's ethernet drivers. Don't know if it will fix it, but it might.

Check if a wired connection works if it does retype the password for the network.

I got the internet working on my desktop again by using a Wireless internet Adapter so I guess my problem is solved. However since I guess I don't like it when stuff doesn't work suddenly for no apparent reason, so if anyone has any ideas how to fix my wired ethernet connection I would love to know.

    I did this, nothing

I also connected my ethernet to my netbook to test out if it working and it worked fine. I can't think of a password that I would have to reset for my Wired network.

There may be an option in the BIOS to turn off fan error messages, but not all motherboards include the option. Brand name PCs often have stripped down BIOS options, so there's a good chance that you won't be able to turn it off there.

Is there a reason that you're connecting all of your fans to the PSU? Can you connect a fan to the motherboard? That should rid you of that error.

The first thing I thought of was a driver issue causing your networking problems, which is why I was wondering if you reinstalled your OS. It seems that your drivers are fine though.

Have you tried making a wired connection from your modem directly to your PC to eliminate the router?

It's also possible you damaged your motherboard during the transfer with an ESD or something else.
