Shoalong Gui like to go bay > ultima mid stagger, happens way too often and theres no way to really avoid it.

i do like long's better aside from the occasional stomp 1-shot on fang when i'm trying to take out the legs.

I drop the usual RAV/RAV/RAV and COM/COM/COM and instead use COM/COM/SAB and RAV/RAV/SAB, where I'm not the SAB. Lower DPS and Chain speed, but the NPC SAB will continually cast Daze on the Shao as you continually break it. The Shao will only occasionally sneak attacks through.

I don't recommend going all "same role x3" paradigms other than SENx3, COMx3 and RAVx3.

MEDx3 is fine unless you're using Fang and/or Light since no Curasa/da = useless MED.
In that case have them on SAB or COM to still the chain gauge.
Potions will outheal Cura x3 over time.

SAB/SAB/SAB is very risky if you're unlucky with sticking debuffs, always go SAB/SAB/MED instead.

SYN/SYN/SYN is redundant and counterproductive if you're using Vanille and/or Fang beacuse they'll waste time overwriting each buff with the -ra version; though if you main Fang and Vanille is not in your party you can get around it.

Concern is not over time, concern is topping them off asap.

Partly depends on your 3rd char, if they have slow and daze you'd be insane not to tri-sab. Otherwise it's a personal decision, I go tri-sab even with light just for the speed of application.

SYN/SYN/SYN is redundant and counterproductive if you're using Vanille and/or Fang beacuse they'll waste time overwriting each buff with the -ra version; though if you main Fang and Vanille is not in your party you can get around it.
I listed an exact order above to eliminate those concerns, the main reason you go tri-syn is that fang and vanille don't get enspells.

I don't know if it's happened to anyone else, but apparently you're not allowed to take a long time to defeat this guy. Had him almost dead and he decided to cast doom on me. FML.

I just tried my first shaolong using plow's strat, got it down to 200k hp then it just spammed ultima/bay. I literally was switching between senx3 and medx3 until it finally killed me not sure what i did wrong but I'm very frusterated.

They get tougher the lower their HP. Think they start to spam more after 50%, then after 25% it gets pretty ridiculous. What I did was knock it down 2x normally by Highwind'ing the legs.. Then I immediately summoned for the 3rd knock down and finished it off then

Very similar to Plows, few tweaks I added while playing?
Was to lazy to max the ultimate weapons before getting the Trophy, Still managed to kill them in 2min Average.

    Fang: Party Leader
Kain's Lance Lv.51 (Upgraded from Dragoon Lance)
    Genji Glove★
    Imperial Armlet★
Clay Ring (Upgrade to Gaian Ring★ASAP)
    Collectors Catalog★

    Lightning
Omega Weapon Lv.42 (Upgraded from Gladius)
    Genji Glove★
    Imperial Armlet★
Clay Ring (Upgrade to Gaian Ring★ASAP)
    Kaiser Knuckles★

    Vanille
Nirvana Lv.72 (Upgraded from Belladonna Wand)
    Genji Glove★
    Imperial Armlet★
Clay Ring (Upgrade to Gaian Ring★ASAP)
    Magistral Crest★

    Sen/Sen/Sen
    Syn/Syn/Syn
    Sab/Syn/Sab (Lightning as Syn)
    Med/Med/Med
    Com/Com/Com
    Rav/Rav/Rav

Enter fight as Sen/Sen/Sen and cast Steelguard with Fang to reduce Quake Damage.

Switch to Syn/Syn/Syn as soon as Quake damage lands and cast Haste/Protectra/Shellra on Vanille.

As soon as she has the 3 buffs Switch to Sab/Syn/Sab and spam Slow/Curse while Vanille casts DePro/DeShell/Imperil. As soon as those 5 buffs are up spam Daze until it lands. During this time Lightning will be casting buffs.

Switch to Syn/Syn/Syn while Shaolong's Dazed and cast Bravera/Faithra/Veil on Fang and Lightning, Vanille usually ends up casting them on herself.

Med/Med/Med and Cast 3 Curas and Immediately switch to Com/Com/Com while the 3rd Cura is going off.

(I started to notice my timing for the first 5 steps was getting better/faster when there was still a chain gauge present from the Debuffing. The only Reason I would Switch to Com/Com/Com before going Rav/Rav/Rav was to get the Com slow depleting Chain gauge buff. I did this incase it casted an Ultima/Bay while I was Rav/Rav/Rav so the chain gauge wouldn't completely deplete)

While in Com/Com/Com attack 5-6 times then Switch to Rav/Rav/Rav and Spam Flamestrike until chain gauge is 999.99

Switch back to Com/Com/Com and continue attacking until it dies.

Throughout the fight he will be casting Ultima/Quake/Bay, Switch to Sen/Sen/Sen as soon as you see this and then back to whatever step you were doing before.

Thanks alot, I will have to try this when I get home tonight. It doesn't seem like you switch to medx3 alot? or is that just a given? When I tried shaolong I switched to medx3 after every stomp incase of a ultima/bay shortly after. Maybe that was my downfall :/?

Yes, time spent healing is not time spent doing damage.

Here's how I do it, and I think it's a lot more efficient.

    Fang/Vanille/Lightning

    1.Start SYN/MED/SYN
Plenty of time for fang and Lightning to cast haste on themselves before Quake lands.

    2. SEN/SEN/SEN to absorb Quake.

    3. SAB/MED/SAB
Vanille will heal up the party while you as Fang spams Slow until it lands. Hopefully land imperil/deprotect/deshell as well. Slow is absolutely essential.

    4. SYN/MED/SYN
Cast Protectra/Shellra on everyone. Lightning will 1st cast haste on Vanille, then cast protect/shell on everyon who hasnt been protectra/shellra'd yet.
After everyone has protect/shell on, Lightning will start casting Enfire.
Have Fang cast Bravera/Faithra on everyone while Lighting Enfires.

Vanille *should* beable to keep up with the cures, but switch to MED/MED/MED if you need to.

    5. If needed, SAB/MED/SAB to fully debuff.

    6. MED/MED/MED to fully heal.

    7. RAV/RAV/RAV until staggered.

    8. COM/COM/COM while staggered.

switch to SEN/SEN/SEN for Ultima and Quake
    MED/MED/MED when you need heals.

If the turtle uses Bay and everyone is dazed, go into SENx3. you wont get out of it until you get hit.
If one person is not dazed, switch to med/med/med and hope she Esuna's you.

After Stagger wears, you'll probably have to restart from step 3 as the -ra buffs don't last long.

I can normally manage to kill them before they come unstaggered, but sometimes a badly timed Bay can ruin that.

They get real bitchy after around 50%

Once you finish leveling everyone, you'll put these down in 2:30, unless it uses Bay which can always f things up

Yeah I would usually take the stomps and only switch to sen/sen/sen if he was using bay/quake/ultima. Most of the time switching to sens for bays is hard cause he does it so quick so I would just go Meds instead.

Also what Barthellosylph said, I wouldn't attempt these guys until your very close to maxing out everyone roles. Got the fights down to 1:55-2:03

My first 2 tries were with everyone fully leveled, I just think my approach was alittle off. I switched to medx3 way to often so I will go try that strat and see how it turns out. Thanks alot for the help guys.

Edit: Those strats worked awesome. It took me a few tries to finally get it down but after a while I could kill them no problem within 1 stagger. Ended up with all the dark matter I needed and got my treasure hunter trophy! Now to kill my long gui...

Teleportation gate is literally right next to the Ci'eth waystone in Vallis Media - Base Camp.

If you don't have the waystone, exit SE from the Archylte Steppe to the Vallis Media and follow the path. You can't miss it.

Shaolong's Bay>Quake is such bullshit. The big Guis are so much easier than the babies imo. I usually have to stagger them twice to kill them. :/

i thought the babies were tougher at first as well. try putting your Tortoise paradigm close to the ones you use the most. I can usually switch to it before the Bay damage shows, which severely reduces the damage taken.

another thing to try is to not lower its HP on the first stagger. it spams Bay-> quake when its HP is low. so lessen its HP with the first stagger then re-buff/heal up and kill it on the 2nd stagger.

also, don't forget to spam Daze on the suckah

You shouldn't have to stagger twice unless you get stupid luck, in which case it's probably going to kill you before you manage the 2nd stagger.

Just enfire and burn that shit, if it bays in the middle of stagger try to get to tortoise if you can and pray it doesn't daze fang. Then finish it off on the next attack round.

Slow is the key to both of the upgraded turtles. Makes Long a joke and Shaolong a hell of a lot easier. If you're being overwhelmed, Slow probably wore off. I would recommend making your recovery Paradigm something like SAB/MED/MED instead of MED/MED/MED so that you can still Slow it while recovering.
