People buy modular so less cables blocking airflow = better temps.
And plus this shit just looks ugly =\

If people are buying new PCs and don't intend to run SLI/CrossFire video cards, I have 2 suggestions.
650W XFX Black Series. ~$120 on Newegg. If you don't mind the green fan, it's remarkably efficient, modular (good thing, imo, makes a case much less cluttered, and if designed well there's no noteworthy downside), relatively inexpensive, and blows Jonnyguru's test suite out of the water.
The SeaSonic X650 is also a hell of a good choice, but ~$30 more expensive. It's marginally more efficient than the XFX, and doesn't have a green fan.
I use a Corsair HX-620 which is exellent, but if it died this second I would probably only be replacing it with the XFX or SeaSonic, until something new comes out.
Interesting note: The XFX unit is built by SeaSonic, has slightly better ripple and transient characteristics than their own unit, but only has (and tests to) 80+ Silver certification, while SeaSonic's own has slightly worse ripple and transients, but cleanly hits 80+ Gold.
/vouch for SeaSonic
Not exactly a household name, but its a reliable brand if anybody was looking at those.
Would just like to say, the those XFX PSUs look great (imo) and run great. They also have plenty of connections, even the 650w I'm pretty sure comes with 4x 6pin and 2x6+2pin.
Thats just a prime example of someone that should have just bought a pre-built Dell/HP/whatever
This is how its done, and I have a heck of a lot more going on than the above
