POL and FFXI grainy graphics (pics)

I recently installed FFXI on my laptop and didn't remember the graphics being this horrible, even without element enhance.

(yes i realize i forgot to white-out the name on the bottom right corner lol)

im running windows 7 pro on a sony vaio laptop.
    4gb ram
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Intel Core Duo 2.53 GB processor

is there any ideas on what the problem might be? also is there a good thread with a link to a registry change program to up my graphics? I'd imagine this computer can handle FFXI to run a lot more pretty. Google searches have failed.

    Thanks BG

First off with POL. Double click the title bar to resize the window to default. If that screen capture is the correct size, its definitely not at the native resolution it normally runs at.

As for XI. Your overlay resolution looks great, as for your 3D. You need to modify this in the "advanced" area of the Windower GUI. Start at your desktop resolution, then modify once you find what fits your preference.

windows says drivers are up to date when I check them. however, the auto-search/update feature windows has is usually pure fail, so im downloading the official drivers now.

POL window isn't stretched or anything. its at normal size. also, i dont really understand what you mean by overlay resolution, and I wouldn't know what to put as my resolution other than the 1920 x 1080 i have right now

Always use ATI/NVIDIA specific drivers, not Windows, thats one thing that wont be automatic for a few more years.

So yeah, go to ATI's site, and grab the full suite for your card, not just the driver. This should fix your prob.

    Here are your drivers.

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-64.aspx

Also in the windower_gui.exe file. Make sure x64 is checked since you're on 64-bit.

    (From my laptop)

    Overlay = Chatlog/Status bar in game/etc.
    3D = Your actual character/enviorments/etc.

You can adjust to the correct screen ratio once in game under configuration/options in the menus.

I've also downloaded 2 other versions of the suite and installed them. The problem is that it SAYS that it installs OK, but my graphics dont change for anything and when I goto uninstall it and try again it tells me "there are no components installed"

Your driver problem's normal drivers for the desktop version of your gfx card wont work you need the notebook specific ones from sony

as for the crappy picture edit the registry to make it out its fairly simple and makes a huge difference.

To get to regedit go to start menu > run and type in regedit next depends on weather your running x64 but since you have 4gb of ram am going to assume you are so

first open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE next open SOFTWARE next open Wow6432Node next open PlayOnline next open SquareEnix then final open FinalFantasy then change the value's to the ones listed below to change them double click on 0001 0002 etc... and change it to decimal and enter the corresponding value

0001 and 0002 are your desktop res when you click on them just switch it to decimal mode and type in the res

0003 and 0004 make them double your 0001 and 0002 value's(0001 double to be 0003's and 0002 double to be 0004's)

the rest set to the values

    0007 1

    0011 2

    0017 1

    0018 2

    0019 1

    0020 1

    0021 1

    0022 0

    0023 0

    0024 0

    0028 0

    0029 20

    0030 0

0031 not sure what this does so leave it

    0032 0

    0033 0

    0034 0

Open the FFXI Config in the start menu and maximise everything :3 I always forgot to do that after a reinstall... Not sure if that windower thing does it though, I never used it :3

The config acculy limits the gfx's need to use regedit to acculy max them out
