    yea.. i'm thinking thats exactly what XIV's battle system will be like.. but then there will be many abilities on the DoW side that cannot be brought over to DoM because they require real attacking weapons.

    Then again, it could still work... maybe Trunksplitter would work with a staff or something..

    about the Lantern Shield.. i think Lunarhawk might be right about it.. In real lantern shields, the swords are supposedly detachable if you choose it.

    So perhaps the 2 handed shield is counted as the shield plus the sword that comes with it, and by default the shield falls in your main arm, but also blocks off your secondary arm slot since you'll be able to detach that sword to use on your secondary arm...

    in other words.. its a 2handed shield but not, in the sense that you dont wield the shield itself on both arms, but a sword that is part of the shield set in the 2nd arm... or something

    This may just be my hope for zweihanders talking.. But I've never heard of a "two handed shield" in the history of any game. Is it out of the realm of the possibility that a translator confused the words "Sword" and "Shield"? The words are similar enough, and I think if they managed to confuse a "fist weapon/claw" with "nail"...

    Couple of posts someone pointed out that in the OP it clearly states Fencer = Rapier and Rapier is not a 2 handed sword.

    It doesn't matter, because both "two handed shield" and "great sword" are in the files. That said, neither are currently linked to a class or create a class (unless you still count them as Shield and Sword respectively), hence the speculation over who uses what.

    in a sense you could say that.. but because of that each attack is more meaningful (and powerful) and you can build up your attacks to unleash an even more powerful one..

    The system still confuses me cos battles get a little laggy and I can't fully tell whats going on, but for eg Lancers get "Thrust".. you can hold the attack and let it charge up instead, unleashing a more powerful "Skewer" instead.

    It makes battles more tactical, anyway.

    It's funny, a few weeks ago, I was thinking "If they add beastmaster, I think it should be a Disciple of the Land or Hand and be called a shepherd or something to that effect." Why? Because SE pretty much completely sucked when it came to FFXI's pet jobs for some reason. (Assuming it is a pet job, and god does that sound wrong.) Keeping it something where combat is not its main concern should prevent them from doing whatever they did wrong with BST/SMN/PUP.

    Skewer is a different WS. It has its own Action Gauge and Effect Gauge.

    Given the click-once-per-attack setup, I can envision haste builds for TP, and multiple attack weapons, being key.

    I plan to gear my melee so that I can attack as fast as a ridill WAR, by clicking a lot until my hand hurts. Each click = 1-3 hits per hand (assuming I can get dual wield somehow), and with haste builds, I can attack with full power within a second or two of the last attack. And the second or two delay counts from when I first clicked the button, so depending on how long the animation lasts (which for multiple hits per hand, may take a couple seconds itself), it may give the appearance of nonstop attacking since I'll be able to click again by the time the animation ends. And maybe Pugilists will get a Hundred Fists where there's no delay between one attack and being able to click for another, so you can just pound the keyboard over and over really fast during that time.

    Once thing I have not had much of a chance to test so far is WSs. I'm not sure exactly how to use one once my TP reaches 100. Or 1000, if that's the case this time around.

    One would assume there is no daggers. They should give Archers daggers as a backup melee weapon or something. There's no need for a Thief class with Pugilist. A melee class focused on disabling enemies would be pretty cool with dagger, but there's probably better weapons suited for that anyway.

    One nice thing about the 'click-to-attack' thing is if you pull too much hate, you can just not click. And while you're waiting for the tank to establish hate again, your attack is charging up, so you can at least make up for some of the damage you missed out on by waiting.
