"modest performance" aka poo Maxes out at 42c difference

"excellent performance" max difference 37.5c, not even 5c difference from best to worst

Its not magic, its some paste intended to improve heat transfer to the heatsink. its not going to fix a IHS or heatsink base that is not flat.

I am a hypocrite though, my heatsink base and processor IHS were lapped to a nearly optical mirror finish and it had absolutely no substantial gain other than the ~4c lower temps. *disclaimer* Meaning I gained nothing from the lower temps other than the temps themselves.

I still think you're better off going with the i7 920/930. If you're building your PC around gaming, then the 6-core Phenoms are going to perform worse than Intel's i7 chips. The 6-core chips will be better for media and transcoding applications though.

Just some quick extra info on this.

CPU/Mobo - If you do go AMD, stick with the 1090T. Takes like 20 secs to OC to 3.8 - 4.0+.

Memory - Way overkill unless you plan on some major OCing. Save yourself the money and get 8GB of decent RAM.

    Heatsink - Same as above.

Power supply - At that price, might as well jump for a Seasonic X.
