FFXI fatal error?

Today, when I zoned into Caedarva Mire through the runic portal, FFXI suddenly and instantly crashed. Now, whenever I try to log on as that character, the crash happens again, regardless if I'm on windower or on normal FFXI.

My other character, who is currently in South San d'Oria, can log on fine, so I'm wondering if it might be related to Caedarva somehow. I've been to Caedarva Mire normally as recently as Wednesday, so this is a recent problem.

Any suggestions on how to possibly fix this problem?

Update edit: I tried to make a new level 1 character in North San d'Oria, the game crashes as well, so it seems that Caedarva is not the only problem. So far, Sylph Whitegate and Quetz South Sandy work, while Sylph Caedarva and Sylph North Sandy don't work. I'm baffled.

Have you tried running a file check?

How does one go through that? I'm not very technically savvy, and the only file checks I go through with are when there's a maintanence.

Open POL ~ On the left (menu) you'll see an option to check files ~ click that ~ If you have your POL set to automatically log you in first you'll need to back out to the main POL menu which gives you options on which ID to log in ~

Well, I did a file check, and there were 40 corrupted files in FFXI. However, 7 file repairs later, there are still 13 corrupted files, and repairs are no longer fixing any files when done.

Am I going to have to reinstall FFXI?

Well, I reinstalled FFXI and Playonline, so I assume the files are fixed.

However, now Playonline crashes as soon as I click on the icon. Any idea what might be the problem this time, and how to fix it?

Did you remember to get the viewer from the PoL site(if you're not on XP)?
