The reviews are the hopelessly biased parts. All publications exist to sell themselves, the difference is that gaming magazines have chosen to get most of their revenue from advertising the people they exist to criticize.

oh, and americans are pretty much just average in intelligence, assuming you're only counting the developed countries that provide easy access to both education and gaming consoles. if you're going to compare america to some shithole that doesn't even have running water in most of their country, of course we're going to come out on top. there are plenty of nations that surpass us in intelligence and level of education. but fly that team america flag up high if it makes you feel good brotherman.

The US is more or less tied with France and Norway for average intelligence.

so you said they read gaming magazines for opinions/reviews on the games, but at the same time they don't care about what magazines say about the games they're reviewing. i think you're the one that's confused, man. i've never said anything at all about critically acclaimed vs. well-reviewed. i have said that good reviews will influence people to buy games. that's kind of the point.

I said people read reviews to get an idea of whether a game is enjoyable (i.e. Halo), not whether it is critically acclaimed (i.e. Ico).

Video game reviewers are concerned with 2 things: How much money have I been paid for this review, and how much will the average reader enjoy this game. Reviews for anything but FPS generally have something along the lines of "fans of the genre will play this game and thnk a koala bear crapped a rainbow in their brain" and then give it something like a 2/5.
