Lol. I agree completely. I was basically struggling to say that there are still things that jobs are capable of, that no matter who is providing the data, something can likely be learned from their application.

I'm still struggling Why can't I write anymoaaaar?!

Except almost any way to make competitive also makes it possible to bot. If it was something like Darters dropped pop items or random ??? every xx time, it still means someone using something to cheat has an advantage (before someone starts shit, I don't really mean cheat in a negative sense, it's just the best phrase I can think of).

Some of us really enjoy some parts of the game, but not others. So we should not play it at all, because we don't like every single thing about the game? Yeah, ok.

Make it so that 21-22hrs after ToD, a besieged-like animation occurs in the zone. When this happens, all characters are turned into Fomors of their respective race. A single-man ballista (No Teams) then commences and the last person left alive receives the pop item for that day. Competitive, but no bots or mules will save you since you won't know who is who (Everyone is a fomor!) and botting might backfire if your mule starts attacking you. Then again, I don't know how these programs work, so there might be a way around this using .dats or whatever. Still, it's feasible to make such a system.

What's this about competition? You can eliminate competition by making the trigger item obtained in a non-competitive way. Pankration points, for example.

You forget that an important function of the world spawn system is to forcibly introduce rarity of items by capping the number of times a mob can spawn in the world. There's a 7x increased chance a Ridill or Ebody or Defending Ring will drop if seven groups get to fight the mob in a day vs. one group.

Just look at Ebody since Odin came out.

Not that everyone who had an Ebody before was smart, but some absolutely terrible people get Ebody now because they join a casual pick-up 36-man shout Einherjar groups and just keep up their attendance.

That idea was made under the pretense that there was to be no competition. If you want a competitive solution, see the other idea.

That's still a horrible idea for a few reasons.

    1. FFXI PVP sucks ass. The engine just isn't optimal for a PVP system.

    2. PVP skills do not correlate into PVE skills. Think about all the retarded job combos that suck in PVE but rock for PVP. Think about how well someone solos and if that correlates to being able to parse high in a merit party or at an HNM. You shouldn't make a PVE event's success rate dependent on an unrelated set of skills.

    3. The use of a program like vent will always make it possible for people to skew a system like you describe. Even without vent they could develop a code "If you are in our shell today, do the /dance 4 emote so we know who not to attack!"

    4. Additionally it disproportionally hurts shells that bring more people cuz LS members could take each other out. The system should reward shells that are more active. Currently the larger a shell is the better chance it has to claim. Having 35+ people makes it so that you have 35 unique times you can attempt to claim at. Sure they may not be optimally spaced without botting, but I'd rather than 35 random times than 6 perfectly spaced times. The number one factor in claiming is always amount of people; botting is a way to optimize that, but no bot can help you claim consistently when you don't bring #'s

Also it may sound silly but there always has to be a back story for events. We would all think it would be incredibly sloppy if there was a daily NPC that you talked to and it literally asked "So you want to be in the lottery for a Fafnir spawn today?" I can't conceive of a good way to turn a zone into a free for all and relate that to winning a pop item prize.

Boo hoo. Sounds like an opinion. If you're really that hurt by the idea, then just make it a mini-maze or whatever is necessary. People that think a competitive system without bots cannot emerge in FFXI are thinking within closed borders.

    2. PVP skills do not correlate into PVE skills. Think about all the retarded job combos that suck in PVE but rock for PVP. Think about how well someone solos and if that correlates to being able to parse high in a merit party or at an HNM. Who cares if PVP skills do not correlate to PVE skills? We're not making a test to see which LS is best suited to kill the NM; we're simply making a competitive system that avoids the problem of bots and mass mules.

You could standardize it such that when you're a fomor, you only have specific spells and abilities. You could randomize it so that you're playing a LV75 version of any class regardless of whether you leveled the class.

    3. The use of a program like vent will always make it possible for people to skew a system like you describe. Even without vent they could develop a code "If you are in our shell today, do the /dance 4 emote so we know who not to attack!"
Anyone that has done Ballista will know that what you're describing is only feasible in an ideal system. Coordination, when there are roughly 30+ people in the area, is very difficult. This difficulty is enhanced by the fact that all fomors of the same race will look the same. Disable emotes and name or whatever is necessary to further that point.

"Should reward more active shells" is an opinion. I don't know how many would agree with that. Also, it doesn't disproportionally hurt larger LSs since their chances of killing each other is matched by the fact that they have a higher chance of having remaining characters.

Essentially, the problem is that you people have conflicting expectations of the system:
    - "I want the system to give everyone an equal chance to claim"
    - "I want the system to reward more active shells"
    - "I don't want the system to reward botting"
    - "I don't want the system to reward excess mules"

So on and so forth. Just looking at the first two I see a problem.

A dragon had threatened to lay siege to our Aery. We need a noble warrior whom we can forget the next day, just like with missions, to save us from this beast. Due to the size of the area, we can only permit one party (alliance) to enter the fray. Thus, we will commence a free for all ceremony to see which among you warriors is the fiercest. Slay the beast then gtfo.

I'm wondering why that's such a bad thing. People who don't "deserve" a better piece of equipment are getting it? They're definitely entitled to that Ebody if they worked fairly for it. SE's intent was to open this gear up to a wider range of people, and they succeeded.
