Is there any program that track your bandwidth usage?

I'm pretty sure there is, but could anyone recommend me one in particular? I hate downloading random program off the net until I find one that do the job right.

The reason why I want one is that my ISP literally doubling my internet usage. I only have 60gig a months, but when every 15gb torrents are turned into a 30gb torrents..it get used pretty damn fast. And before someone ask, yes, I'm considering the upload/download. Torrents program say I downloaded 14gb and uploaded 3gb, my isp website say I downloaded 27gb and uploaded 5.

    [edit]
Also, can anyone tell me what's the average internet usage for a day where you only browse the internet? I have trouble to believe refreshing bg could get me 1gb a day...

My Kaspersky is showing anywhere between 21 MB and 250+ MB usage on just firefox on random days over the course of this week.

Sorry can't suggest any bandwidth monitors, kaspersky internet security does it for me =/

That's the most popular thing I could find outside of using router-based bandwidth statistics. As far as third-party firmwares go, I believe both DD-WRT and Tomato support tracking usage.

Also, if you're using utorrent, that also tracks your torrent usage so you'd at least be able to see how much of what your ISP claims you're using is based from torrenting.

If you can get DD-WRT on your router I'd recommend that, the monitor it has is nice. You can get just the statistics for the WAN port like I have below:

I'm sure Tomato has something similar

Analog-X Netstat live has the functionality you're looking for and is super lightweight.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm using networx atm and it's doing a good job.

I'm going to gather data for a few days and compare it to what my isp's bandwidth tracker. So far, it still look like they are ripping me off....

Might want to resecure your wireless connection if you have one, somebody leeching off of you would be more likely than them doing something so easily traceable. Edit: What ISP?

My isp would mean nothing for you since they are exclusive to where I live (Québec), but it's cogeco cable.

The reason why I'm excluding someone leeching is because download spike correspond to mine, but are always amplified. Also, most of my neighbhor are rich and old, so the chance that someone actually manage to hack my wireless is slim.

I see, I just wanted to know because I had another thought that depended on the type of service you used... but I didn't want to say it (actually edited it out lol) because I don't want to explain why I think it could happen. In case you are wondering you're not using what I was thinking.

I'm curious to see the results though. When I monitored my bandwidth I was up to like 330GB a month but I'm a pretty abnormal case.

My router is protected with a wap password, but I guess I will add mac address restriction tomorrow to be sure.

There is 3 pc/laptop here, and there is no web service activated on any of them. It's limited to yoube, forum browsing, msn/aim ( between 200-300mb a days). WoW, Starcraft II, ventrillo were insignificant as well (100mb for a few hours). I can imagine getting 1 gb on a big week end day (torrents excluded), but according to my isp, I'm reaching it all the time.

Where you live, are you charged per GB after you go over your allowed total? Also you said,

This means you have 3 PC's but only 1 is connected to the router? Or only 1 is heavily using the internet? You would be surprised how much bandwidth those would use up, also if one of them is infected with anything it could be using up some bandwidth. I believe the program your using is local to one machine, so if those other PC's are using the internet at all your results are skewed.

I just took a look at my stats, was pretty interesting.

I myself need to slow down on my torrents. Last e-mail i got said i hit the 220gb mark lol. I would be fucked with a 60gb limit.

It's like 30-40$/per month and 2$ per gbs over 60gb. I'm getting scammed, but we don't really have any other choice.

There is 3 active pc, (2 on the wireless and one directly on the router). Networx was installed on all 3 pc, and I'm adding up the number manually. Since I'm the one who spend the most time on the pc, I typically use more bandwithd than other pc around (it was something like 200mb for me, and 100mb+50mb for the other 2 for yesterday. This 350mb was turned into 750mbs on my isp wesite. I didn't check if the upload add up, but it was minimal.

None of the pc are infected as far as I know, but networx would probably have caught it anyway if they were.

I use Netmeter, it's worked great for me. I would consider myself about average (maybe slightly above average) on the torrenting

Could be worse, here in Alaska most of the ISPs enforce a usage limit, especially outside the larger cities. In Anchorage the main cable company does $50 a month for basic 1.5-2Mbps service with a 10 GB monthly usage limit, and $5 per GB over. They remove the limit if you upgrade to their Xtreme package, with phone service, cell phone service, and HD cable television. They also have a max speed of 12 Mbps if you are willing to pay the $300 a month for it. The DSL company has unlimited usage, but maxes out at 3 Mbps, and is only 1.5 Mbps in most of the city, for about $60 a month plus $10 a month for the phone line you have to use for the DSL. ClearWire and ATT also do wireless cable modems via cell phone towers, for a comparable fee to the DSL, and comparable speeds, but you have more usage restrictions, such as being probited from using peer-to-peer protocols, and they dislike constant video streaming, like YouTube and TV news sites. ClearWire capped me at 5 KB/s transfer speed when they caught someone torrenting on the modem, and said they'd cut my connection completely and charge the fee for ending my contract early if it didn't end by the end of the month. It was a roommate's MMO updating itself via BitTorrent that flagged it.

In Seward you only have two companies to get internet from, vs the four in Anchorage. Both have monthly usage limits. Cable modem is $80 a month for 3 Mbps with a 10 GB monthly limit, and $5 per GB over, and no option for unlimited usage, most you can get is 10 Mbps and 30 GB per month limit for about $200 a month, same overage charge. DSL is 2 Mbps, no other speeds, for $40 a month, but 2 GB per month usage limit, $20 per GB over if they decide to enforce.

Our cable modem company only has unlimited usage plans in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and the Mat-Su Valley area, which require the full service package. Fiber optic is available outside of the Municipality of Anchorage, so say as near as Wasilla, but I'm not sure what the cost is. MTA seems to be unable to bring it into Anchorage, and there was something keeping us from being nominated into the Google fiber optic project because they were saying they were afraid it would drive the cable modem and DSL companies (besides ATT and ClearWire) out of business in this city (even though both can run fiber optic if they wanted to, they just don't because they make so much off the subpar speeds they sell already). I bet MTA got hit with the same objection.
