what do you call this?

I am not sure if this is a fallacy with a specific name, but take for example in a debate where one side argues banning violent video games and the other argues not banning violent videogames, this one person (who's interests are in not banning violent videogames) cares more about decorum and chooses some happy medium because of some belief that extremes are bad (in this case, the happy medium would be only banning some violent videogames). This person often uses rhetoric about how one should be realistic and a pragmatist, and is often prone to false equivalence.

The person is using a lot of fallacies, but what do you call a person who engages in this sort of behaviour or what do you call this sort of behaviour? I would call them douches or dumbasses, but those words aren't specific.

If someone is using that as a debate strategy I'm pretty sure you can hit them pretty hard without straying into personal-attack territory, since the point would be legitimate.
