Alpha/Beta Announcement thread. Next Alpha: ???

I don't understand the last question on the application. The one that only gives choices that say you own a game fan site of some kind. Any one know if it is a mistake or has no bearing on the application process?

I'm EU and that's the only options there was when I did it too, I filled my app on the day it was announced.

I got my beta invite the other day, starts tomorrow for me!

Does anyone that got a beta invite for an earlier date know if the site opens at a set time or if I can login after midnight tonight and get my download started?

From the earlier reports it sounded like you'll get the access sometime before midday or a bit after.

The testing windows won't change until beta unless SE changes thier mind.

So the internet went out while the updater was... updating and apparently blew up. Now I keep getting this version update failed message with lots of numbers and it just closes down.

Anyone have any experiences/suggestions?

That sounds like pretty much the same problem I had. If Vista or 7, go to the FFXIV folder in documents (my games, I think) and delete the whole thing. Apparently the folder gets remade every time you log in or something, so you aren't losing much.

Logged in and downloading the client now. Hope it doesnt take all day. Considering they said they would email us prior to the 7th and we are yet to receive anything (well me anyways) does anyone have any idea when EU people can play or is it a case of being able to play as soon as the client is ready?

What is the correct ports? that needs to be open for this game?

Go into FFXIV Alpha config and look under general. There should be a port number and an option to change your UPnP port mapping. Switch the option to use instead of automatic and then use a program like bittorrent or utorrent to check if that port is open. On bittorrent you have to look under the speed test menu and enter the port you want to check. It'll pop open a web site that will tell you if that port is open or not.

My download failed the first two times. One at 99% and another at 33%. After I changed the port settings it finished in about 3-4 hours.

Edit: I forgot to mention that if the port you're using is actually open you should be getting remote connections as well as local connections. If the port is blocked you're likely only getting local.

Jesus, this downloader is annoying as hell. 5 hours to download even with the port open, and if the internet loses connection for even a second, the whole thing is fucked and must be done again.
