It gets better. I figured it might be due to high traffic or something, so get this:

I delete it from my PC, then simply go to reinstall the downloader again.

Same deal: 11000 Version update failed.

1. I received an email saying I have been selected for the FFXIV Alpha/Beta but I can't log into the tester forums. Have I been tricked?

No, your email will contain a date at which point the site will become accessible. You will not have access to the site until this time.

2. I should have access to the tester forums today, but I still can't log in. Have I been tricked?

3. I have access to the tester forums, but when I attempt to log into the game I get a time out error. Seriously, have I been tricked?

No, the alpha is only open for testing during certain times. Check the tester forums or BG forum stickies for more information.

4. I tried to download the client, but it's going super slow. Help!

1. Make sure the right port numbers are entered.

2. Make sure the right protocol (UDP or TCP)

3a. Open a cmd window and type ipconfig/all
3b. Look at the address labeled IPv4.
3c. Makes sure that is the address the ports are being forwarded to.

Step 3 is the most important. I realized I had been forwarding my port to the wrong address for a while (it ended in 100 instead of 101). Fixed that shit and my speed on client and utorrent like quintupled. I went from 24hrs+ download to like 3-4 hours.

Edit: Also, someone said to change UPnP to "Use" instead of "Auto," but that actually stopped my download in its tracks. I suggest leaving it on auto.

UDP 55296 – 55551

Uh...I'm not too familiar with window 7 jargon, but go to
control panel --> user account --> manage account -->change an account -->change the account type --> admin

Since you said you deleted the whole updates folder (you sure it was the right folder?) and redownloaded the whole thing, it has to be something with your pc setting. While we are at it, if you're using a router, unblock every port (DMZ tabs will do that on linksys router) or plug it directly on your modem to make sure nothing else is interfering. Desactivate your antivirus for the time being as well.
