Its not the screen thats laggy, its just the god awful mouse controls that are in the alpha.
I just keep getting a server has timed out thing every time I try to log in.
Well I made a galka called jungle bunny and figured that would get me banned so i exited and can't get back in.
Just spam the fuck out of it until it recognizes your awesomeness. I got in on the 6th-7th try.
Spoiler: show
Edit: Except you deserve it, because racism isn't funny.
Yeah, server timeout is crippling. You can read the NA thread regarding it to pass the time.
Man, I really hope Japan isn't judging us based on that thread.
Also, I am going to skrate up name my toon Error 13001 at this point.
hurray another boot out right at the end
Just got in, but I had a character made already and didn't have to sit at the character creator for long. Game is running much better than in the character creator.
Just make sure your only trying to log on every 5 mins or so. The login server queues you up and remembers your spot as long as you attempt a login at least once every 10 minutes.
When you get the timeout error, the number next to the "Status:" is your place in the queue.
If your trying to login every 20 seconds then not only are you wasting your time but your not helping the login server cope with the number of people its processing.
I dont get how you install the file without clicking on the main FFXIV alpha button. Everytime I hit that button, as long as there is any FFXIV information currently on the PC, it blows up with that stupid error.
I don't get how something can be "backed up", when even backing it up will cause the error because the data is still on the PC.
I was hoping there was some sort of alternate alpha program to open it with once the game finishes installing, but apparently not.
By "backing it up" I mean just copying the one patch file (the 2.6gb or w/e is is) to your desktop.
If you get the version error, just reinstall the 100mb original client, then when it starts downloading the patch, close the program down.
Copy the file from your desktop into the new folders your new install created, restart the program. It will take a minute, but the updater will recognise the patch file as completed and install it. You shouldn't need to download anything at all to do a reinstall to fix your version error.
Some people on the EU forums reported that they only needed to delete one smaller file in their update folder to get it working, but don't mention which file specifically.
The error your getting isn't because it hasn't downloaded properly, but because it hasn't installed properly, so re downloading the patch over and over is just a waste of time.
Because you don't even get into any queue if you can't get into the lobby server. Just have to try and try.
I'm having trouble finding the individual client and the patch file. I'm looking in both the FFXIV folder and the Square Enix folder, both which contain different things.
I see two massive folders called Client and Data. both with around 2 gigs, but I don't see matching files in the FFDIV folder in the games section.
Hmmm.
It sounds like the queue system is just overloaded again then. Thats what it was like for the first few tests. Just bear with it for now, SE will have to do some more working on the login system again it seems.
