Actually... maybe 'heavy' is a qualifier for the class itself. As in, Gladiator isn't a 'heavy' Discipline of War. Maybe that's exclusive to Marauder (and Enforcer?). Perhaps the classes are graded as light (Archer, Pug) medium (Gladiator, Lancer) and heavy (Marauder).
If somebody has a rank 10 Marauder, try equipping that plate armor and let us know if you are able to equip it.
If that's not it either, then it must be a bug.
Is it possible you'd need to go to the Gladiator's Guild to train a proficiency in heavy armor, as with that other game people hate naming around here?
Highly suspect there's some prerequisite--training, guildleve, something. I'm very suspicious of Gladiator being a "medium" armor class, seeing as how it's the only class SE has really called out specifically as a tank. (In before someone points out PGL has a defensive stance.)
Edit: Or yeah, it's a bug. Look for training and leves though just in case?
Was wondering that myself to be honest, be a bit blonde for a tank class not to be able to wear plate mail though I'd of thought. You could be right.
looks like just a bug to me
has anyone been able to find items that can be applied as finishes or even different bases (i thought i saw a few items that had colors in the base name)
really i just want to know if armor/clothing dyes are in the game(it is obvious there is some kind of system) and how they work
Yea, If you look at http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ the Marauder is wearing plate and the Gladiator is wearing mail.
This did come across my mind also.Is it possible you'd need to go to the Gladiator's Guild to train a proficiency in heavy armor, as with that other game people hate naming around here?
I'm pretty sure Gladiator isn't a Heavy class. You think of it as a tank, but first and foremost it's a Master Swordsman. A medium-sized weapon-user wearing medium weight armor is pretty fitting. Besides, they make up for it with their shields.
Seems likely now that you mention it. I'll go find some mail somewhere next alpha and see if this is the issue, cheers.
Its possible that "Heavy Armour Use" is something your character will get at a certain level and some get it earlier than others.
For example:
Marauders might get it at 10 (hence the 10 req on the item)
Gladiators might get it at 14
etc
If that were the case it would say it on the armour I would imagine, although its not unusual for SE to leave things hidden.
I am guessing it is meant for other DoW otherwise it would simply say Marauder only, can't rule other plate wearers out, such as maybe those found in the DAT files.
Might be worth filling in a bug report either way, they should make it more clear whatever the outcome is though.
They said glad was able to tank. If Glad isn't the tank, who is? What job, other than Glad, will be able to fill the role of the tank - the most important class in a party-format game other than the healer?
You'd have to provide some serious evidence to convince me that Glad won't be able to wear heavy armor, especially considering the screenshots we've seen of that tank clad in heavy armor and a sword.
If there's some knight class, they surely haven't said it'll be included in launch... so who else could it be?
I say report it, either somebody boned that bit of the code or it's something they need to improve the handling of. Either way, something needs fixin
You see, in FFXI it's basically the same thing, But you can actually rotate the Camera while fighting (Locked on too) by holding the Shift button And using the directional buttons, I liked that very much in FFXI, Would hope if someone could confirm that this still remains in XIV.
why do you have to use directional keys to select attacks when there is a hot bar on the bottom of the screen. isn't it like every other MMO in which you can press 1-9 and do your actions?
Looks like 2 good things for NA testers in 30mins.
1. Can you still use Shift+Direction Arrows to move camera with Action Bar up
2. Can you use the number row to choose your actions from the bar.
