Wow, thanks for the info. I am definitely going Conjurer!
Wow, thanks for the info. I am definitely going Conjurer!
I believe that there will be a pure healer class (Mystic?) but it would be more for those tough encounters and healing during intensive fights and so forth but it should still be a welcome addition to regular level up parties. I do agree though that each class having some sort of healing ability will allow for parties to operate without a dedicated healer. [edit] I'm thinking more for the higher levels and finished product.[ ]
Thanks for the summarization of your adventures! I enjoyed reading.
Thanks for the info Fred! I loved Blm in XI and my fear with Conjurer was that it would be forced to be healer only. I'll be looking forward to being a Conjurer when XIV comes out!
I think what SE is trying to do with the class system is make it possible to make healing and DD classes out of any of the classes (especially the magic disciplines). It all depends on how you spec your gear, your physical traits and your action points. The more levels you get on other classes, the easier it becomes to customize your main to fit the style of play you want. This also goes back to the idea that the priority and concentration of the game is about "growth" or how you grow your character. Say you go lvl 20 on both thamauturge and Conjurer. You can customize your ability set between these two classes (pick the style of AOE and mechanics by which class you want your main) to fullfill any class style you want. Furthermore on tanks, you can make a Paladin like class by combining Gladiator main tanking abilities, with healing abilities of conjurer. You wouldn't have AOE, but you would have the ability to expend MP to heal yourself and others.
In other words... SE is trying to do exactly what they 'wished' the sub job system did in FFXI. By applying certain skills (at halved or nerfed rates from main) from a previous job to accentuate another class and make it something completely different.
Thanks, much appreciated.
We did 6 leves in all I think, every one of them was a level 20 5 star (the highest rating). I think they either need to add much harder leves or ramp up the difficulty of the 5 star ones. That kill 10 Dodo one we did with 10 people today we did last week on 5 star difficulty with only 3 people (PUG, CON, LNC).About today's tests: Started with a party of 12 (eventually split up and stuck with a party of 6). We started with 3 levequests in the level 17-20 area. I'm not sure on what difficulty we had it on but I'm assuming it was 7 stars. Rolled through all 3 of em. Noticed the hate mechanics were pretty wonky and I was only able to do normal shots. Anything else was grabbing me insane amounts of hate. I probably died close to 20 times today lol. We ran around trying harder mobs, ended up wiping on a boar. Was an epic fight and only took it to about 40% before it did an AOE stomp and took out 2 tanks and a healer.
We explored Cassiopeia Hollow and did Arhimans and Gnats. Couldn't find any Elementals unfortunately D:
I was hoping that with 3 times as many people in the party the leve would adjust the mobs but it was exactly the same.
Cassiopeia Hollow was a bit under our level I think. We had 5-6 18+ people in the group and the mobs down there just melted.
The boar we fought was interesting. The AoE it used was obviously conal since it only hit people standing in front of it. After it one shotted the tank + a few others, it turned on the other glad and did the same move. The glad realised though and moved around behind it while it was charging its TP move. Since there was no one left in front of the mob the AoE hit no one at all. Of course after that the boar turned again and hit the glad for 650 damage
I thought it was great to see that being aware and moving out of range of the AoE works.
Next time if your up for partying up again Cal you should jump on vent with us.
Here are a few of my pics from the same party. I took out the ones showing everyone gathered since Calemero already posted them. Most are things people have prob seen before.

I also have 57 gigs of video I took in todays test to sort though yet.
I've PM'ed Ghost but haven't heard back from him yet, does anyone know what program to use to edit peoples names in videos?
He doesn't edit names in videos, he hex edits his own name so it shows up differently then what it actually is. You really only need to edit out your own name, nobody else is going to get in trouble because they ran in front of you when they were recording.
I use Sony Vegas for my video editing. If you were to compress the footage the way you want it and send it to me, I could edit the names if you were having trouble.
Thanks for the info Fred. Any chance you can give a detail information on Thaumaturge and any other class you played?
Just got an SE newsletter
COMING 2010 for PC and the PlayStation®3 system
Confirmed 2010
is the newsletter only for testers?
Thanks for the info Fred, i`ve just recently started looking in on the info about FFXIV and I was hoping to get back into white magery since playing a nuker in Aion, I feel I`m a healer at the core. It`s a bit disappointing here that at the moment there is no real healer class, but you`ve provided some very interesting information for me to digest as well. (I did love my BLM in XI.)
I'm guessing you can't do anything with the text in alpha? Five words and then a new line so often is giving me a headache. Even something as normal as "The sand chigoe's attack hits Ayate Ihtar for 42 points of damage" takes three lines.
I see, thanks.. Do you have the option for the chat to have a translucent background? Like this:

How about an opaque one?
There are no customisation options for anything at all in the alpha client. You can setup buttons for a gamepad using the config outside the game, turn off shadows and turn off cutscenes, thats it.
The only other options are the ability to drag almost any part of the UI to any part of your screen and resizing the chatbox. You can't move the position of the hotbar or the leve info though.
That pic you posted is from a different version to the client we are using. The minimap is nothing like the one we have, the leve info is on the opposite side and is transparent (not movable and no options in our version), and the chatbox looks different (both visually and the font as well).
Considering our minimap is an improved version I'd say that's an older client than the alpha one, but the alpha client has had a bunch of things included only in thier most basic version.
You only have to look at the pics SE released of the visual changes in the beta client to see that SE have progress much further along the development cycle than we are being shown in the alpha.
Confirming the email, makes me quite giddy. Thanks for all those screenshots. Game looks great.
