I think someone said you have to hit alt twice when you come back to xiv or something. It's in this forum somewhere.

Double tapping alt seemed to work thanks. The control schemes seem very much like XI which saddens me quite a lot. I was hoping it would control with keyboard+mouse like every other MMO does. It basically seems like you will be using keyboard only, mouse seems very bad for camera controls and useless for anything else. I think this will turn off a lot of PC only users from the game(not XI vets). It just seems so unfriendly to someone used to regular keyboard+mouse controls.

I hope this time around, they will give pc players some sort of tutorial for the control. It wasnt bad for me since the control scheme is identical to ffxi, but I do remember struggling in the first couple hours when I started playing ffxi.

The reverse camera is killing me though.

    My Naga is not happy.

I'd honestly rather use a controller than keyboard movements. Still early though obviously, so here's hoping.

You can configure a controller in the config.exe, no? No idea if its working, but i know you have the option.

    Its there and it works.

Considering the sheer amount of feedback SE have been given over keyboard and mouse controls I'll be sad panda if SE doesn't fix them up in the beta.

Aye, that'll turn off many potential customers if it ain't fixed.

It's kinda hard to imagine this game being played with a mouse, but maybe they can make it work.

Somehow I don't really have faith for SE's PC devs though.

Well I got my first try of the Alpha tonight, I had that freezing issue and couldn't figure out how to unstuck my character and that ate up about half my playable time. Other than that I had fun, the game is way more beautiful than I had imagined, I'm real excited for getting to try it again later this week!

AS has been mentioned a few times in this thread (and it bears repeating because someone's going to ask again in the next couple of hours, even if you already figure this out yourself ) if you alt-tab, you need to hit alt twice to unstick yourself.

Don't know if it'll help, but for some reasons, changing the camera point of view (i don't know which key it is, i play with a controller, but it's the one that switches to first person view) fixed that reversed camera for me.
There are two different third person views, not much difference between them besides camera height and camera controls (don't ask me why).

The key your talking about is "v" Eligor.

It swaps between 3rd Person (behind), 3rd person (over the shoulder) and 1st person.

The camera behaves differently between the two 3rd person views.

Does the mining GUI actually do anything right now or is it just for show?

More fun data for the North American servers. Here are the number of new people added on various days:

    Code:
    May 28: 400
    June 2: 700
    June 4: 300
    June 7: 1600
    June 9: 3000
A little over 8000 testers are in the NA servers. Assuming Square Enix has been adding players evenly across all locals, we should be up to 24,000 players worldwide. That's 26,000 until we hit the 50k limit where we may transition to beta.

These are the dates when chosen people can start playing (added to the forums), not when e-mail were sent.

Just a quick question/speculation. Do you guys think that being able to solo is going to be a good thing? I know being forced to group was sometimes a pain, but to me grouping is kinda a fundamental part of an online game. It helped build a community in game and made accomplishments seem more worthwhile (unlike chain-spamming heroics with random strangers you never say 2 words to and get good gear from).

I guess I am just kinda worried FFXIV is going to bring in the WoW mentality and kinda ruin what was special to FFXI to me. I don't think FFXI would have been near as satisfying to me if you could just run around and solo almost everything.

Honestly, I don't think it will ever go the way of WoW. With all their attempts in FFXI to make it more solo friendly, I think SE realizes that there are people who can only play for a few hours at a time and will cater to those type of people. However at the same time, SE knows there are hardcore players(u know who u are!) whom want to get everything and can invest hours upon hours and of course, SE will cater to those people.

So I wouldn't be too worried bout it. =)

It's like FFXI with less fail wait times.

Well, crap. Looks like they expanded the number of testers even more than I thought. The user adds from June 9 rolled into June 10 (JP time). We are up to 12,500 testers in the US now.

    Code:
    May 28: 400
    June 2: 700
    June 4: 300
    June 7: 1600
    June 9-10: 7500
I've updated the June 9 record to show that 7500 people were added (the script took a while to add all the users I guess). So we have 12,500 users per region (probably), which means we are around 37,500 world-wide testers. So around 12,500 more testers needed to be added in total to hit the 50,000 mark.

Eagerly awaiting the updated battle system. It's a little too slow to get rolling for my tastes. I'd prefer that once you enter battle mode your first attack isn't on a timer (or it takes off the time required to perform a regular attack from the timer.)

Guildleves will make all of the casual people happy. The 5 difficulties pretty much let you pick whether you want the quests to be a pathetically easy solo, a difficult solo, or varying degrees of party-ness. You can rest assured that the best items in the game are going to come from 15-mans (or maybe more.)
