thanks a bunch for the vids. The shooting looks annoyingly slow though. The charging. I was thinking xiv would be more active. How's it feel when playing? Also do you have to aim at all or is it auto-aim?

I hope they add something along the lines of self-combos of abilities, like what order you perform actions in effects their potency / outcome. Maybe it's like that already but I don't know

i think they don't do that because of the increasing costs of each stat the more you pump it.

putting it in a box kinda assumes we already know that stat point costs increase every 10 points on the nty-1st point.

and when you're dealing with more than one stat, getting your stat spending rejected because you overspent is probably more annoying than the current latency issues.. which no doubt will improve over time.

edit: unless you mean to assign all, then choose to apply. that would be a good system yea.

The information is static though and could also be held client side. It would still display the cost of the next upgrade, and then when you spend the points it sends to the server to validate and then save. Having server calls every time someone increases a stat is horribly inefficient.

I'd like to see a minus button added also, so we can add and subtract point before confirming them to the server.

That way there is a lot less back and fourth between the player and server.
I'm pretty sure that will be fixed in a future version of the system. I doubt we're looking at the final version.

You are probably right, but it is just funny to see them using that version of it when they are already having massive server issues. Why exacerbate the issue needlessly. Hell, if they plan to allow the changes client side first and then uploaded to the server why even code the version they have now. Seems like a waste of time/resources and doesn't really provide any sort of benefit.

It's almost as if its an early build or something.

Yes Yes Yes, I know, it's Alpha. That isn't what I am saying. What I am saying is why even code it like that in the first place IF they plan on changing to a system where you allocate client side and then upload to the server. They gain nothing by using the current system over coding the client side system from the beginning; and in fact they seem to making problems worse by increasing server load and making it harder to increase your stats.

You can say its early build and alpha all you like, we understand that, and its getting a little old.

It still doesn't hide the fact they are going about things the wrong way from the get go, its like i said the other day, SE have been stuck behind the PS2's limitations for so long I doubt they know which way is forward half the time.

I'm not trying to attack them here, but stuff like the stat system should be common sense to even a noob developer, same goes for keyboard and mouse control.

Scroll to zoom in and out characters point of view.
If we're talking about making things more accommodating of others, how about making the mouse buttons selectable instead of tying them as listed? Better yet, make every key/button/wheel changeable.

+1 for playing witht the controller, I played with my xbox controller this last test and it was super easy to use although the right trigger did nothing (I think its attached to emote list On/Off)

About speding attribute points, I was spending and up to the last couple points when all the choices greyed out because I didn't have enough to spend on most stats, then before I finished I got a server error. I logged right back where I was when I started spending points, but it hadn't used any points yet, so its safe to say the server doesn't take into account your spending until you finish and choose to keep what you spent points on.

Full mouse controls is my biggest issue right now honestly. WASD is just too fucking slow in my opinion. Since there's no PVP as of now, i suppose i could live with WASD, but i'd rather have everything fully customizable to make use of my Naga.

God, the music reminds me a place in XI.

As a friend said, with this way of skilling up our character, we will spend the first 6 months to grew a char and then we will find out that for the job we want to play, we did all wrong. And then we will have to create a brand new char and start all over from the beginning! :D

I'm down with that fully customizable mouse buttons would be great.

You only have to wait for the initial bar to fill before being able to use a skill again. Anything past that raises damage further. So you'd be able to shoot arrows every 3~ seconds, which isn't very slow, imo.

Also, aiming? You have a lot of reading to do, friend. Check out the alpha manual and such.

Well, it looks like what the archer was doing wasn't aiming, but the way they describe marauder sounds like a lot of aiming is involved (maybe targetting of AOE effects).

Any pointers? Besides the obvious manual. And the 200 page thread.

I think with the Marauder what that they were trying to say is that since a lot of the moves root you to the ground, you'd have to anticipate where a mob is headed.

I was a marauder and they have some very powerful attacks that look cool! I saw a lancer hitting a enemy NPC and I said "wow" because how far away it was able to hit the mob from, before this I was worried that lancer would not have a neiche due to it just being another weapon like 2h axe that doesn't take into account the distance used when attacking, so I was happly surprised
