Ugh I hate having to spend points on stats in games. Always have to min/max and if you fuck up you gotta respec or new char.

If it's designed in a way to let you have a choice, it's cool. But ya, there tends to always be some formulas/spreadsheets that come out saying that point allocation X is better than everything else. Ya, Min/Max'ing is a pain as we tend to not have a choice to be able to do the "most" damage.
The good thing will be that we won't know enough about the game mechanics for a year or so to effectively min/max, so you'll get your own choices.
You don't know this.
Besides its not just about the speed, a mouse is many times more accurate than a camera controlled by keys as its anologue vs digital.
A game controller has analogue camera control via the right stick (360/DS3) so it makes sense to provide this option for mouse users.
oh yeah seeing discussion about attribute points spending was 75 levesl 1-9, 9->10 was 100 points
I use a xbox360 reciever to use my wirelss controller, but the ffxiv alpha config has a controller setup page, so yes if you know what the buttons do (see below) you can easily navigate the setup windows and assign any button per command.

thanks for the controller image !
Default controll settings aren't perfect but they are easily changed in the config options.
and in case there are some who didnt get the memo..
stat progression points are
@ 16 (base) to 20 : 2 attribute points to raise stat by 1
21-30 : 3 points
31-40: 4 points
41-50: 5 points
51-60: 6 points
etc.
didnt bother trying past 62 tho.. pumped other stats.
not too sure about hp/mp but its much steeper.
mp base is 157.
157 -> 160 (jumps by 3s) is 8 points..
and it increases too.. tho im not sure at which points.
thats what I was hoping for too I want the B to cancle not confirm, which is why I am going to use xpadder next test to see if the program even works with the alpha client. Hope it does work so I can change the button layout a little more, xpadder lets me add 8 button options for the D-pad so I can have an extra 4 buttons on while I jsut have to press diagonaly to execute, I hope it works and able to assign 16 buttons instead of 12.
I already stated thats what I used in the previous alpha test. Just that some buttons wish where in other places and I didnt feel like loging out configuring the controller and finding the controller layout while alpha test was live, while I did find the controller layout while logging again and again to use later, the FFXIV controller config id less than helpful as none of the buttons are named what they will do its just a list of (Button 1-12) and then you goto ButTon # and press a button you wish to use for that button, still unknowing what button # function is. that and xpadder gives more options to config than any game controller config ever did.

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I was wondering about physical levels vs. weapon skill levels. Has anyone in the alpha cranked up their physical level, then tried battling with a new, unleveled weapon? Does your physical level end up making a big difference? I know it's only the alpha, but I'm curious.
Someone reported on this already (it was in the other thread I think). Raising your physical level does help your disc level. Lets say you are rank 10, you have all the attribute points that you assigned to your character, those points stay there when you move to a level 1 discipline. That means you will be stronger as a rank10/level1 marauder, compared to a rank1/level1 marauder.
