I think its too early too tell what advantage a high physical level wil have on characters who are leveling a new weapon.

I expect this to change dramatically throughout the beta test so its not worth worrying about.

Has anyone come up with what stats relate to yet for classes?

I read somewhere that STR wasn't attached to how much damage you do, I read it was actually AGI so I've been pumping points into AGI

Ummm no. If you leave them default 1-9 is like that. I used my own keybinds. A and D keys to straffe and mouse to move and control my character/camera. 1,2,3,4,Q,E,T,F,G,Z,X,C,V,` and mouse wheel up and down all bound to abilities. And alt+ all those keys for more. I can leave my left hand on my keyboard and hit all those keys instantly without hardly reaching at all. I never have to even glance at my keyboard or action bars.

How would you change it if you could? Once you have a good idea of how the game works it wont seem like such a chore. Learning a new game is like working a new job and having to learn a bunch of new shit you usually dont want to. But you know changes are always nice after you get em down.

Then don't min/max your stats dude. SE doesn't require you to.

The community does, however. You don't want to be a "casual" do you? Such a dirty word!

. . . wow that's interesting. That's almost exactly how my controls where mapped for FFXI when I played it.

Also, Circle for Confirm all the way. Old school Final Fantasy.

I don't see the min/max thing as such a big deal TBH, skill and knowing how to play your class will always be more important than stats.

We already know we will beable to reset our stats in the retail verson, and it doesn't take much common sense to know a melee should be putting their points in Str and Dex a tank in Vit and Agi and a mage in Int and Mnd. (assuming they work like FF11)

The rest will be made up with gear and skill, sure you will get a bit more out of your characters if you max them in a certain stat but I don't see it being the big deal some of you are making it out to be.

It will be comparable to having a food buff or not.

As far as attributes go, I'm worried about min/max builds being too encouraged by game mechanics as well.

A thought I had: depending on your race, clan, and guardian, different attributes might have additional costs added or subtracted in retail. The cost to raise one attribute could also increase if it is a certain amount more than other attributes.

The alpha set up obviously wont be staying the way it is.

If vit is anything like it was in FFXI(see useless) then maybe it might not be as cut and dry like you make it out to be.

Also we don't know for sure if stats have changed their value, maybe stacking DEX is the way to go because it returns more crits then per point of strength increases damage.

Also with the min/max thing I think the points will become too expensive to make someone want to use 30 points to increase their strength one level when they could get 15 dex for the same price.

It's not like I made claims to the efficiency of any of the stats so I'm not sure why you are quoting me :S

Maybe I'm just spoiled from ffxi, but I'd want to be able to switch between different classes when the mood strikes me. I wouldn't want to have to worry about redoing my stat allocations every time I want to go do something. I can't just distribute all of my points evenly because I'd probably be at a big disadvantage when compared with someone who has min/maxed themselves. I just want to be able to switch classes without being penalized for it. Seeing as how the ability to switch jobs was a very nice feature of ffxi, I really don't see why they want to get rid of it.

With the possibilities of adding abilities from other classes, I get the feeling it will be advantageous for players to spend their points somewhat evenly. Of course, this will depend on how powerful these cross class abilities are. I was very skeptical of the attribute system at first, but when I started thinking on a larger scale, I have a much better feeling.

I'm fairly certain that in end game situations with clear responsibilities, we (as players) will collectively force ourselves to min/max. However, in solo play or small groups, it adds versatility. For example, it might be possible for a gladiator to spend a decent amount of points into a magic boosting attribute for self healing when playing solo. "Would it be better to double my healing ability, or do an extra 10 damage per swing?" Granted, those numbers are completely arbitrary, but I think I'm making my point.

Come to think of it, being able to add more hp/defense in preparation for an aoe heavy boss fight would be great.

they already said there will be a way to reallocate your points, its just not in alpha yet...and in terms of switching jobs, its easier than in 11, you don't have to go to a mog house. if you spec physical stats you could do one fight as a lancer the next as a gladiator if you so desired. they haven't announced how you will repick your points yet so who knows if it will be as simple as "must be in a non-combat zone" or as complicated as "must do a quest"

This is true, they might make it relatively easy. The other thing I was worried about is that when we are allowed to reallocate our stats, we might have to manually redo our entire stat distribution from level 1 up every time we switch between DoW and DoM. I suppose I'll hold my complaints about that until the final version, though I hope someone convinces them to not make us jump through too many hoops before it's too late.

All they need to do is have it so each class has its own stat sheet, when you switch classes the stats are reconfigured to that class.

If its a fresh class then you can allocate the points, but once you do so you will need to pay to have them reset.
