Hmmm. I was under the impression that your action gauge would fill even if it was "empty", and if you didn't have an action queued up by the time it filled, the power gauge would start filling, and any action you input at that time would be used immediately.

So you effectively have to push an action button twice to get it to go off? That's just daft.

I think you only have to press it once. And I'm pretty sure action gauge is just another way of saying global cooldown.

See? I'm hearing two totally different things.

One person tells me battle goes like this:

    Scenario "a":
Enter active mode > Select action > Wait for action gauge to fill > (optional) Wait for power gauge to fill > Click action again > *Action executes*

    And another says it's this:

    Scenario "b":
Enter active mode > Wait for action gauge to fill > Wait for power gauge to fill > Select action > *Action executes*
    OR
Enter active mode > Select action > Wait for action gauge to fill > *Action executes*

In scenario "a", "action gauge" is just a fancy name for "casting time". In scenario "b", "action gauge" is a fancy word for "ATB".

Scenario b makes so much more sense. Like I said before, it's just daft to have to hit a button twice to execute it.

From watching different videos I would say that scenario b is actually true. The action bar was filling when players were switching between commands and they just had to use it when it was full.

    In an interview:

    http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=19378

    SE said:

In order for the character to perform commands specified by the player, one must first store up the Action Gauge. If you select a command before the gauge is ready, it will activate once the gauge fills up.
So, the gauge starts filling before you select an ability, and will fire once its full if an ability has been selected already. This is also what I've seen in the alpha so far.

As for people saying otherwise, its possible when you first enter combat it doesn't charge til you select your first ability, then just continues to auto charge after that. Its also possible its due to lag or alpha bugs.

    5) Is action gauge filling rate based on your equipped weapon? Skill rank? Other?
It seemed to me that my pug character attacked faster than my marauder char, and I put that down to the weapon speeds, but I can't be sure there.

    This is from here:

    http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=19163

The developers are still unsure whether players will be able to master every class, of if they will impose a "see-saw" effect, similar to crafting in Final Fantasy XI.
You can see that the response from SE wasn't specifically about crafting, but that it was just being considered. We have no idea if they are still thinking along those lines.

We have temporarily suspended the FINAL FANTASY XIV Alpha Version client download, along with the version update process.

Please note that you will receive an error if you attempt to either download the client or perform a version update at this time.

We will let you know once we reinstate the services in question. Until then, we ask for your patience in this matter.
Interesting phrasing, not talking about cancelling the alpha but suspending the client download. I wonder this has anything to do with people not in the Alpha ending up with the client (not saying they are wrong for having it or making any comment on that aspect) and possibly trying to log in with it.

I'd imagine they will simply put up a new client when everything is fixed - this one must be too borked

No i'd imagine it's due to the client stability issues and data corruption players are having issues with resulting in the inability to connect.

It's likely that we'll have to redownload the client a third time.

From what I understood, alpha players didn't need to download the client again. They only needed to reinstall it or something. Right?

I'm also very sure that the action gauge fills up regardless of if you select an attack. I was watching the HD bats video from ghost six and he is browsing through his abilities as the gauge is going up and you can hear him "select" it and it goes off right away when the gauge is full.

It's B, as Ghostsix said watch the bat video you can see that certain skills have their own recast timer, in the case of the video Raging strike having a much longer recast timer than the rest of the skills.

I bet they have/will updated the client so you must log in before you can update, I'm not sure why they didn't do this from the start.

I speculate that the mythic weapon will be a whip.

Well, "whips" have not been found in the .dats. "Precious Swords" have, though.

Most games have Level of Detail systems. It saves a lot of workload.

We had to download the installer and then download the ~3GB patch again. It was a bit smaller the second time I think and although it is annoying, if it fixes bugs we can't complain.

Either the updater isn't working right now, or its a new installer completely. Couldn't fetch the update with my previous installed version, uninstalling/rerunning the installer didn't help.
