Yes. What is a "needless frustration" is subjective, though. I thought the whole days/time/weather + crafting having something to do with each other was needlessly frustrating, because aside from extensive testing there was no clear way to find out what was true. No hints to point one way or the other, nada.

Same goes for TH, AV, PW, Goblin drink and so on.

But something we can figure out on our own with the help of in-game hints I find enjoyable, and "it brings the community together".

Doesn't really bring the community together when more than half the time all anyone's gonna do is look it up on the wiki rather than asking anyone.

Since the stats are going to be obvious on your character screen once you have eaten them I'd rather not have them in the foods description.

To keep people happy though maybe after you have eaten a type of food its exact effects could be recorded in your journal under a "Food" tab?

That way people have a record of what things do in game after they have used them once, and people who like it without the stats on the food can just ignore the journal tab?

I could get on with this idea.

I also liked how for the most part one variety of food was for a certain stat. Sweets were int/mp regen, meat was str/attack power, etc. If they keep a similar consistency with this and then give you food as the end result you can easily figure out all the stats for things without ever really wasting money as you'll have a decent idea of whether the food grants the stats you need to begin with.

Another +1 for them showing us food stats. I'd rather not go through that headache again.

Really though i like this idea:

Culinarian's could easy get an ability that identifies the selected food. I think i like that better than having each food's effect constantly displayed; adds a little spice to the game and makes it unique.

Yeah feedback forum go for whoever is in the alpha plz.

I'd rather wait til the next test and check for myself if you can find out food stats before I feedback something and look like an idiot.

I think if I had to pick I'd go with show the stats, though I will not be bothered in the least if they don't. Lucavi made a good comparison about armor which shows how little sense it would make to hide them.

I really like that guy a page back that said the effects could vary depending on what your character wanted to eat today. That would be pretty neat, and probably easy to implement, but I know it would just lead to complaints and people trying to find some way to get their whole ls into the same food pattern, so on sunday they will have steak day for all the melee so they can go do omega. Or, "LFM Snoll fight, meat and potatoes food day only."

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I'm serious you two, stop arguing. We're trying to keep this thread as clean as possible, so people don't have to spam through that type of stuff when trying to read people's ideas, and more importantly alpha-related info.

If you guys can't stop going at each other for having different ideas you won't have posting abilities in the FFXIV section anymore.

    Seriously, stop it.

maybe it could be like oblivion where the more of it you eat the more its true stats are revealed (and actually in use) by your character...

like say something gives +100atk +10% accuracy ... the first time you eat it you may get 5atk, then 5atk 1% acc then only after you have eaten maybe 100 does it then on give you full benefits...

I wish people would consider the long term effects of the ideas they throw out there. If this happened in 14, I guarantee everyone would be expected to spam food until they get max effect from it. People will want to group for a mission, try to invite you as a DD, then kick you when they realize you only get 10% food effect from your DD food. I dont know about you but I dont feel like spamming miqabobs or w/e DD food will be for several days before I will be acceptable to group for things.

Alot of the things that were wrong with 11 were because of developers designing aspects of the game without consideration of how the players would adapt to it. Hopefully this is something that for 14 they will consider more thoroughly before they put it in the game.

As far as foods being a mystery, since all stats are viewable in menu, I dont think its a big deal. People will figure out much more quickly what foods do. However, there is a conversation right now trying to figure out the exact effects of kitron macron on crafting in the crafting forum. I really hope any food with effects like that are clearly explained in the flavor text. Its a bit silly for several people to craft hundreds of items while under the foods effect to try and accurately guage what it does.

Ultimately, I believe any input from players will still be examined before implementation to consider long term effects on the game and how people will actually adapt to gameplay mechanics.

What if they keep the "mystery" aspect the same but add let's say some NPC an old all knowing monk a top a mountain that'll take 1hr maybe 2 (lol) to trek. You can trade this NPC any one item once a day or week? S/He'll reveal any hidden traits that item contains (no you cannot logout your mule next to him >_> ). Would that satisfy both parties?

Personally I like the hidden aspect.

Within a week people will have taken every item up there and have it "appraised" and it will be on a wiki for everyone to look up. And dont pretend you wont be one of the people looking it up to save you time. Every ffxi player doesnt sit around and experiment with every food finding out what they do. In fact Im almost positive after any update with new foods added there is topics here listing the effects, which are quickly wiki'ed for the ffxi community to look up.

More on this, but I'm thinking that if you chose your desired food, it'd do a lot more than what it normally would. Like with sweets in XI, they usually dealt with Int/MP, and while that could be the same here, if you were craving one and ate it, you'd not only get those bonuses, but meaningful ones to everything else. SE could simply call it a "Sated" status that more generically buffs you.

As an addition to the original idea, I'd wanna say that eating the same things over and over again without variance should diminish the bonuses said food gives (worst case, a debuff). Much as I like burgers, I can't eat 'em every day. And really, the idea isn't so much about pimping fat or skinny characters, but just to put a spin on the cooking economy to help keep it from stagnating. This could mean actually releasing multiple types of food that do the same thing, and while costs could vary, you could still maintain preferred buffs if avoiding your daily want or if it's too expensive in comparison.

Should probably think that mobs that eliminate food effects probably shouldn't be present, either.

Your character should get a "favorite food" type to pick from, like with guardians, and the effects of different foods change depending on what you pick. That way you wouldn't have people only ever buying sole sushi or whatever one food gives the best stat.

But you should definitely be able to see what a food does for you before buying it.

Once again, people will just figure out the best food to pick as favorite food. Everyone will pick the same shit "because its the best". I can even imagine people finding out they picked the wrong food early on rerolling. Bad ideas are bad.

I like a double food effect from using a different type of food each day set randomly. It would stop the markets getting quite so stale with everyone using only one food/class type.
