I got a question for the testers i don't think anyone's asked yet. What are drops from mobs like? Rare, plentiful? Has gear dropped from normal mobs? Amount of gil dropped per kill? Etc.

I think gear will be droped as much as gear drops in FFXI from normal mobs, its known to happen but usually only beastmen drop and then only on rare occasions. so far I have goten crystals to drop only, and gil from any mob that I beat.
I agree. It would be nice for Ghost to have his own kind of compilation thread. If people could actually keep the thread to just questions for ghost about his personal testing experiences. Kind of a Ghost Q/A thread rather than them being randomly dispersed throughout this thread. Of course I suppose that chances are another thread would just digress into another speculation thread similar to this one, and the mods may not like the idea.
^ I'm sure SE would love that.
If only there was a function to search this thread, with advanced options, to search by user. That would definitely make it easier to find Ghost's posts.
edit: /sarcasm
Left click his name and search for more posts by Ghost.
50-200ish gil
actual mob drops are pretty rare, feathers, skin, stuff like that is not too common. I'd compare it to getting beetle jaws in Crawler's Nest with no TH.
And more attention, no thanks. SE been nice so far, don't wanna get flamboyant~
edit:1
Loot pool is.. different. Drops are assigned to a random person "Temporarily." It's in a list separate from your regular items. From there you can send it to someone else in the party. If you do nothing it "drops" to your regular item list after a few minutes. I guess they did this so nothing is lost due to zoning or DC. I didn't see an option to turn this off.

Aggro shows in the chat log, something like:
Evil Bat notices you. (if you back off it won't attack)
Evil Bat Prepares for combat. (if you stay in aggro range)
That's from my experience. Alpha etc.
It's not a lot of news, but well, actually, does it even qualify as news.Hello everyone, and thank you for continuing to take part in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Alpha Test.
At present, there still remain several facets of the server stability issue which require improvement, and our efforts to bring about those improvements are ongoing. The results of our investigation over the weekend indicated that further alterations were necessary before launching the next test, which is why it was rescheduled for the beginning of this week.
On another topic, we are extremely grateful for the immense amount of feedback we have received regarding in-game combat. We will temporarily close this feedback forum, however, until server stability and latency issues have been adequately addressed. At that time, we will likely ask again for your impressions and opinions on the battle system. In the meantime, we would like to have testers focus on the synthesis and gathering features of the game.
Though the areas of the synthesis and gathering systems available for testing represent only a fraction of the content intended for release, the core actions and processes are present. Please take the time to comment on any aspects of these features, from details or tweaks that you would like to see carried out, to what you may have found counterintuitive or poorly explained.
As in previous tests, the quest and guildleve systems will be available, and your continued feedback on these topics is also greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and dedication, and please enjoy your stay in Eorzea!

Is it just me or do the majority of the people registered in '10 have a fetish for Ghostix?
New to any forum I guess? If you click his name, you can view all his posts - it's like wizardry.I think people will continue to pad out this thread with pointless battering about boring aspects, such as "threat", making it increasingly difficult to find Ghostsix.Midgard's posts.
hmmm sounds like farming for mats for your synths is gonna be even more of a pain than xi if drop rates stay the way they are![]()
Perhaps they might add crafting items as a reward for guildleves. Like, if you have to kill a bunch of dodos, your final reward includes some feathers. Or perhaps the drop rates will be supplemented by shepherd. I mean, aside from the fact that this is alpha and the drop rates will all change anyway.
Or recipes could just require significantly less materials, and/or require overall less to 'level up' the skill. They could also supplement mob drops from guildleve/quest/etc rewards as well. So low numbers frankly don't mean much at this point. I'm pretty sure drop rates are something that they aren't bothering to balance as of right now - since there really isn't an economy to worry about; it's testing core mechanics and what not.
I would just like to blurt out that things will drastically change from now (alpha) to a later version of the beta when things are set in stone. There's already stuff out there that says the battle system is "pathetic" and "extremely slow". This is supposed to be hidden from everyones eyes for this very reason, so nobody would judge the alpha/beta as the finished product as so many people are doing with the leaked videos. Anyway, continue, this stigma will change i guess when everyone gets to see FFXIV in all of it's glory. I'm not saying anything bad about the leaks as i enjoy those myself, i just don't like people judging the current as finalized.
You can actually buy a good portion of the materials you need at vendor's. At least for the basic stuff. Guessing most people will do synthesis guildleves, kill monsters for specific crystals (which have a fairly decent drop rate typically.), and do normal crafting. There's already a good portion of people doing them at the moment, so there shouldn't be too many problems.
I agree, I believe we're at least a little bit justified in some of our criticisms. With some stuff, it's obvious that they plan on coming in and balancing it out after the alpha. With other stuff, it's not so obvious. I know we're not the testers, but if enough people raise a stink about ongoing issues, the feedback may be taken into account. It's kind of a little bit better than saying nothing and hoping it all turns out well.
Fetish for ghost? LOL OK.
Sounds like someone is drinkin' some haterade
I just like to express my thanks. That's all. He really doesn't have to upload anything, and we can all appreciate the fact that he does upload.

Just throwing this out into the air regarding mob drops--
It's possible that since the game is still in Alpha, the mob loot tables haven't been filled completely yet. Considering blacksmithing is the only craft available, or so I hear, they may not have the recipes for tailoring, leathercraft, etc. down yet thus no items to add to the mob tables to drop. It's possible that coin and crystals is just the basic loot for all mobs, and as things get fleshed out some mobs will stop dropping coin and start dropping crafting items or other sellables in place of coin.
