Games always look slow to me...when I'm watching someone else play.
Have to wait and see. Though it looks faster then XI, so I'm content already.
The speed of manual attacks is actually pretty fast. When using a weaponskill, it doesn't completely use up all of your TP so you could probably spam 3 or more different weaponskills back to back at higher levels. Take abilities and stats from weapons/armor/accesories into consideration and the possiblities are endless.
It is indeed faster than XI already. With the lag it's hard to tell on video. Manual attacking and not letting attacks charge make things go by extremely fast, but the fights last a little longer because you do less damage.
The fights do seem slow when you want to charge up the ATB but it's part of the strategy. Personally I love it.
When they clean the lag up more I think people can talk about speed. As far as a comparison to other games I don't think there trying to completely break from the familiar.
I do like the idea of more strategy/etc. into each fight. Since I've been playing Aion, I'm just used to the faster pace. Although, Aion feels simplistic w/ respect to FFXI. Like hate mechanics for example. So I'm sure once the lag is gone, the battle style and pace of XIV will be great. It still looked fun regardless of the slowness.
Also seems slower when you're playing on a controller. Since you're having to manually scroll through the skill bars using the directional pad, but I agree. It's a great system and it's not slow at all depending on how you play it.
Plus, a lot of video seem to only be of Archer, the Aion and WoW players are used to their toons shooting at a irrationally fast speed. Who can blame them for thinking it's slow, really? It absolutely is compared to each other. It's just that joke is on you if this is an issue for said person. When has any Final Fantasy installation sported this extremely fast combat? Don't name spin offs either, d-bags.
You must have never used a controller before. If you have to wait inbetween abilities and you have the next ability already highlighted, how is that slower? Assuming the menu is something like the macro bar.
lol people will bitch and complain about everything. I'm sure people will bitch and complain about me bitchin' and complainin about them....
anyway, back to LOST....
Don't think I'll talk about it in this thread, but it was pure....FAIL.
Some of us aren't even close to seeing that shit anytime soon so gtfo with your LOST, keep it to it's own thread goddammit.
Watch it Kuya, I hear the rumblings and clattering of the banners and shields of the FFXIV Defense Force already.
On topic though, how slow are the lancers polearms? Are there variying kinds, like the (only two) polearms in FFXI? I mean, for a Drg, there was no feasible reason to use any kind of halberd once access to lances were available, because of the damage mechanics that favored high damage, slow attacking weapons.
Have you noticed if there is any sort of similar system in FFXIV, where the aspect of "choice" isn't so much as a choice as an decision of what is right and what is wrong - IE. Lances good, spears bad?
Well I know its early, but even if there are only access to two types of weapons, someone who is in Alpha can easily provide feedback associated with them.
Weapon A was slower but hit harder and I felt like I killed mobs faster/slower with it.
Weapon B was faster but hit weaker and fights felt longer/shorter.
I'm not sure if there is even different attack speeds for weapons currently.
When I used sword as GLA it felt just as slow as when I used Gaxe. Too bad I forgot to check what the swords attack speed was listed as, but Gaxe was "1" at least. Sounds like a template for the future but yah I could be wrong there.
From the screenshots and such I've seen, basically all of the weapons have an attack speed of "1" right now. Since it doesn't make sense for big 2h weapons to swing as quickly as light shortswords, this is surely just an aspect of the game they haven't dealt with yet... IMO
Well, sounds like "it's an alpha" is a valid reason when it comes to combat speed.
I wish it was beta 2 already... but at least this shows that it's still not set in stone and feedback may actually be considered in the end product.
Although no one knows how shit works later in the game so changing the combat for low levels might screw things up later. Hm..
I havent researched every weapon, but h2h is rated at attack speed 2 low level.
Im guessing eventually there will be spells like haste or skills that increase your speed/ eliminate cast time at a a penalty etc but thats sppeculation
You get a lot more skills at your disposal as a comparison, in FFXI we got like 1 skill and 1 ws by level 10? pugilist i believe you get 5 skills by 10: provoke, debuff ws, line attack ws, chakra and low tp attack on evade skill.
that gives you a bit to do, strategically and is probably the equivalent of a level 35-50 job in FFXI option wise.
bottom line, its turn based i doubt they gonna change that now. Its definately faster than ffxi, definately more engaging.
