    PS3 Wheels?

Well, I got my DualShock3s, my arcade stick, my PS Eye (and Move when that comes out), my Rock Band peripherals, so what's next? Well, other than a DDR pad (where the fuck is my PS3 DDR?), a steering wheel.

I've been mostly having my eye out for the Logitech Driving Force GT primarily because it was made to go along with Gran Turismo Prologue so I'm assuming it's of high quality because of how anal Polyphony Digital is about their simulation, but what other options do I have?

The Driving Force GT isn't exactly cheap (in Canada), so I'm trying to see what other options are worth looking into, with one of my requirements basically being that it has to work on PC also, either via plug-and-play or a 3rd-party driver. Something that works on the PS2 also would be a nice bonus even though I don't touch it much at all these days.

I've not done a lot of looking, but from what I browsed earlier I can't find much from other brands that work on the PS3 with good reviews other than Logitech themselves, or the shit I did see looked like children's toys with that cheap plastic look.
(like Mad Catz products of two generations ago >.> )

One other thing I've been considering is waiting for GT5's release (if it doesn't get delayed again for the umpteenth time) in the case Logitech busts out a revision or something, which may slash the price of the earlier models.

    title is misleading.
I was expecting pictures of a mobile PS3.

I'd sell you my driving force pro (gt4) but I'd probably wouldn't make much from it plus the shipping to Canada is probably going to be expensive since it's big and heavy. Sucks I spent $199+ for it and didn't get much use from it. Well I guess there's a first for everything...

Logitech is the only game in town when it comes to wheels under $500.

    G27 > G25 > most their other wheels.

Anyone hands on with the Force GT?

The GT 25/27 look amazing, especially the shifters, but they're both waaaay above my budget, nor something I could ask for my b-day this May.

I can live without having a clutch on the Force GT (given how often I stall standard transmission IRL), and the up/down gear-shifter is fine (makes it easier to set up with older games) so there's nothing functionality-wise that I'd be missing. Gear-shifter being attached to wheel would be somewhat nice given my current desk also.

Always surprised at people who have setups like the one in the video and then only 1 screen.

Going from 1 screen to 3 screens is easily the biggest upgrade to a racing sim setup, even more than the wheel I'd say.

Not many of us own PC racing games that support multi-monitor setups, nor own video cards powerful enough to render it all. @.@
(I would have to SLI my existing setup to even hook up a third monitor)

I'm more of a PS3 gamer these days anyhow, I got no analog wheel on my PC so naturally all my racing titles ended up on the console due to analog stick.

Xbox360 and PS3 both support multi-monitor setups for racing games, also you only need a single ATI card now with Eyefinity on PC, shit's awesome.

And I specifically meant people who obviously have thousands into their racing sim setup and buy shit like $400 chairs before multi-monitor, as a serious sim racer it's just bizarre priorities is all.

First time I've heard of this, how is it done? I couldn't picture either console having a strong enough GPU to output to multiple monitors using an HDMI splitter or something unless the graphical resolution was downgraded as compensation, or stretched to fit both screens.

Anyways, managed to borrow my cousin's GT for a bit, and so far enjoying it aside from the gear shifter feeling cheap (it's textured plastic, gimmy a grip or something on it >.>). Will probably just save up for a G27 at this rate for now as there'll likely be a new revision for GT5's release and I'll be wanting to check that out also.

Btw, is it standard for modern-day wheels to always self-calibrate themselves when powered up? This GT always wants to rotate to its extremities before self-centering, I would have figured there'd be an onboard storage solution for it to remember what it discovered.

I also have to say I was a bit disappointed at the lack of proper wheel support for the majority of PS2/PS3 games I own. Of the PS3 titles, only one properly used it (Midnight Club:LA). Burnout Paradise claimed to support it, but its controller mapping sucks, and there's zero way to adjust them as well as the sensitivity as the game has a large dead-zone. Every other PS3 racer I have just sees the device as a plain PS3 controller, which means turning the wheel 90 degrees for the game to think I'm pressing left/right. >.>

But my god, their software for the PC is great (albeit ugly, but it's straight to the point), able to map all the buttons to keystrokes, as well as adjusting which axis the wheel/pedals act as, as well as the sensitivity/deadzones. I wish my other analog sticks had such options on my PC, hell, even for my consoles.
(especially when your Dualshock's analog sticks get worn out to the point where they wander out of the 'dead-zone' for many games)

Damn software even has an option for making the pedal/brake act as independent axis or combined. Good to know they don't hire idiots for their drivers given it's officially a PS3 controller, definately grabbing me one of their higher-end wheels when I get the cash saved.

[EDIT] lol, spooked my mother when I plugged the controller in and it started self-calibrating.

    *ba-ump*

Returned my Driving Force GT to BestBuy since the shifter's clicky thingy for shifting up was busted and was enough of an annoyance for me to take it back.

Went to FutureShop next door, only wheel they had in stock was the G27, so I nabbed it with my bday cash along with the $220 I got back from the GT I returned.

All I can say is, hooooooly shit these two wheels are a whole world apart from each other in authenticity and feel. The shifter alone feels amazing, by far the best one I've handled as far as video game wheels are concerned.

Only thing I can ask is, can anyone recommend any titles for me that makes full use of the shifter/clutch system? Only game I got installed atm that uses the shifter is GRID, where-as the majority of my racing titles don't have button assignments for individual gears. Is it possible to emulate gear up/down presses with the shifter using the Logitech Profiler? I haven't messed around with it much but I recalled it having macro configurations.
(for instance, if I shifted from gear 5 to 1, I would want it to send four gear-down presses)

I'll have to get around to downloading Dirt 1 & 2 when my bandwidth allows it, the wheels have revitalized my interest in driving games.
(never bothered with PC racers before due to lolkeyboard, and I don't like simulations with analog sticks as I learned with GT4 so I mostly stuck to arcade racers on my PS3)

3 360s or 3 PS3s, all hooked to one monitor and linked together via ethernet or USB(varies) if the game supports it (Forza and Gran Turismo both do).

    Example.

Though really, most people do this shit with a PC, it's simply cheaper.

Yeah, the second you mentioned needing multiple consoles, let alone needing games that specifically supported it, it's by far just cheaper to build a single PC rig with a higher-end video card.

Btw, anyone know how much it would cost to ship a G27 from the US to Canada? I know the G27 is friggen heavy, but Amazon.com has it for $262 atm, which is nearly $280 canadian prior to taxes. Might be cheaper if I just return this wheel, order from Amazon, pay the shipping, and wait a couple weeks. This one I got ran me around CDN$430 after taxes, and I doubt shipping a G27 would cost me more than $75, which would save me $75.

Does amazon not offer free shipping to Canada?(or do you mean Amazon marketplace?) In the US it's free on anything over $25...You're going to have to ask the seller(or check amazon's policy).

And yeah, even ignoring the fact that I really *LIKE* the GT series, Sim Racing is like 90% slanted towards PC, it gets better titles, and updated ones a LOT more frequently.

The only issue I've ever had with the PC sim racing series is that they're exactly that, sims, the "game" part is kind of lacking. Much as I like the hobby I also kind of like having goals in my games to push me along, so well I'm playing stuff like GTR series most of the time, I really look forward to GT games, and probably would Forza too, except LOLMICROSOFT WHEEL, once you've used a G25/27 or above you realize what a disservice MS did locking xbox users into their POS wheels.
