    Sound issue on my computer

Does anyone know why my computers sound would suddenly stop working? I hear some static coming from the speakers but I don't hear anything when I turn it all the way up. I even tried plugging my headphones in and they got no sound either. I checked the volume control thing in the control board as well, no dice. Any ideas on how to fix it?

    - Is there a chance that you have multiple possible output devices? For example, that you have audio output set to HDMI (with a newer video card) rather than your sound card/mobo sound? Check in the Control Panels for Sounds and Audio Devices (or whatever it is in the version of Windows you're using) and check what the default sound playback device is.

    - Ensure that you haven't toggled Digital Output Only. This is under the Advanced options if you double click the volume control.

    - If you have an X-Fi, you might try toggling the "mode" that the card is in. I used to have an issue with mine after startup/reboot where it'd produce an electronic sounding static instead of proper audio, and that's what would fix it. In that case, you'll have a Creative/Sound Blaster/X-Fi/etc control panel to open in Control Panels.

    - Might try updating the driver or just reinstalling the device. IE, right click My Computer, go to Device Manager, look under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, and delete the entry for the sound card (Right Click, Uninstall). Then right click the computer icon at the top and Scan for Hardware Changes (or whatever). That -should- result in the computer re-adding the sound card, with the benefit of any borked software settings being reset.

    - It's entirely possible that your card/onboard amp/whatever could be shot.

Ok I will try all those things in a moment but also my iTunes just isn't playing anything at all. Like the song will not even start.

Are you trying to play a song that's in your library already? Is it putting a '?' next to the song title (which would indicate that the file is not where it expected it to be)?

No it was on my iPod, I even tried to play the music I had literally just added to my computer and it wasn't. But now it works and idk why. I haven't done a single thing and it all works now. Thanks anyway lol
