Good friend of mine finally broke down and bought Alky's and Theif's knife like 3 days before that update...

Yeah. I know someone who bought Thief's knife the day before the update, spent 8 million on that thing then the value plummeted.

8 million for Thief's Knife pre-update would have been stupidly cheap. Sounds like he bought it after, and just didn't know <_<

Don't forget about the brief window where people started overflowing the market out of fear, but still weren't sure of the drop-rate.

*fondly remembers hoarding gear in anticipation of a christmas inflation frenzy a couple years back when they really stepped up the RMT bans*

10~15 mil in gear in Oct~Nov, 2~3 mil in gear in Dec... my 2 million gil hauby I farmed my ass off for (which is why I've got such a soft spot for Buttons) was like 200k last time I played. 3 mil PCC > 1.8 mil in a week, nevermind the signed, scrimped for, utterly useless, but super pretty Unicorn set I completed before they announced behe hides in Bonanza... T.T

    http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...4005910a-1.jpg

Did I care about the cost much, obviously not, if I did something as stupid as get the set synthed... but knowing it woulda cost 1/10th as much after bonanza still hurt a bit.

Note: it isn't about the gil amount specifically, 10~15 mil isn't really that much, it is about the timing of my luck, I managed to do these things within weeks at most of major crashes, I started betting against my urges later, actually made some gil.

    Gl playin' the gear lotto!

I think you meant "abhorable", in which cast "abhorrent" is probably the correct usage.

    http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ru/SAMGear.jpg

I just got Usu Body, so figured I'd post my SAM gear up for critique. I only use SAM once in a blue moon since I'm 99% of the time on RDM, so most of my SAM knowledge is from paper and not actual play.

    1 GKT TP
    2 GKT WS
    3 Polearm TP
    4 Polearm WS
    5 PDT
    6 MDT

Ambiguous stuff: MKD helm is +15 WS acc, +4 STR, +2% WSD. Balt begins with the letter V. Kotes are Bandos and Bracelets are Alkys. Earring is Bushi.

I'm mostly looking for critiques on the polearm set, but any other advice is welcome. I think I killed my 5-hit with Polearm by switching to Sword Strap unless I did the calculation incorrectly, so would Pole Strap be better?

As an aside, the MDT set is a work in progress. I'm working on having a lsmate HQ the pieces, and I thought I had saved an NQ Coral Ring after the batch of synths. I must have sold it.

For your polearm set, you did kill your 5-hit. Switching to Pole Strap will be a true 5-hit. (20TP per hit)

EDIT: You may still use the Sword strap outside of Colibri, however I prefer keeping a true 5-hit because it flows with Meditate.

For your Penta set, you will need different sets which vary on the food you eat. Higher Acc (your current set is great) for meat on lower level (Nyzul/Limbus and such) mobs and a high attack set for pizza or sushi builds.

    Great looking SAM.

A few upgrades I can see:

Justice and Love Torque (Although a WS Gorget for Penta is fine.)
    Black Tathlum

Try to create two, or a few, PDT sets that are used for different squeezes. Mixed PDT/Haste for taking hits while continuing to gain TP. Full PDT while you are stunned, terrified, or otherwise unable to continue to gain TP.

I have pretty much the exact same gear as this - except, I have justice torque, o kote, and 8/8 polearms.

My penta set is similar, although I use Ulta ring instead of snipers, and Usu legs instead of Byakko's - I assume I can get away with using meat in merit pt with this? I plan on getting Love Torque soon.

For your MDT build, look at Gavial Hands+head. The hands have +4 and the head +3 for HQs, more than coral+1. Likewise for your PDT set, gavial legs (NQ) have more PDT than HQ subligar, and HQ feet have more than DS+1 feet.

Good thing is gavial stuff is usually dirt cheap.

Speaking of Sam stuff. I'm taking that to 75 next just to have something fun to play around with. I've seen the optimal TP sets and can calculate my acc rates and hit rates on my own, but was curious:

Will I be a shitty shitty Sam if I TP in full Usukane? I'm not sure I want to fork out 10-15mil (not really sure dusk glove+1 price since I got back) for 2% improvement in DOT...

Full Usu = About 10 more acc and 17 more evasion than Mixed set (turban, usu body, dusk+1 hands, haidate, usu feet). But Mixed set is 3% more haste...

What about for Polearm set as well? Since acc is needed there alot, would it be better to keep full usu or again go to mixed set?

Do not TP in full usu EVER. NQ dusk gloves and use pizza or even sushi if you need acc that badly.

Re: GK, if I had full set and no dusk +1 or haidate, I'd wear full set and wouldn't worry. If I had everything, it'd be a small improvement to go mix-match, but honestly, a dozen other variables will be far more important (play style, food, subjob and party build dwarfing these gear differences.)

    Pole could be totally different.

If someone has full usu and no haidate I think I would kill myself tbh. Mix and match will always be better in every way unless you're looking for a half assed hybrid eva set.

Other than the fact that you like to make shallow posts, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

Neo knows mix is better and posted that. I know it's better and posted that. His question is whether full usu is viable as compared to spending another 20 mill on dusk +1.

This has been debated often and in depth for years. Mix match is marginally better. If you want pure damage, its the best combo, but not by any glaring amount. A sam with full usu can out parse a sam in mix match with slightly lesser skill or even more so if the mix match sam has slightly less aggressive play style.

None of this is news. His question wasn't what is the absolute best given unlimited resources. Try to read the question before answering.

The point is he has access to mix and match gear, which everyone does so why should this be a question? Full usu is obviously bad when there are easily obtainable better alternatives. You don't need HQ dusk for mix and match to be better obviously so why would you downgrade your gear?

I really don't think there will be much in the way of new "OMG" gear. It's been my belief for a while now that Trial of the Magian upgrades is the planned outlet of making the top gear now remain the top gear with the cap lifted.

Please shut the fuck up with this bullshit. We all know playstyle and setups will often make a much bigger difference than a few minor gear choices but thats still not an excuse to wear gimp shit. Neo already owns everything (only piece he could be missing is NQ dusk gloves) to make a better build than full usu.

As sam it is never ok to tp in full usukane, why are people so desperate to try and do so.
